Hairspray technique examples post yours

Good results there Dan. Agree with Chris, we should explain more of the steps that we used. I've been trying the AK worn effects and it works pretty darn good. I'll try to get something up on it here.

thanks Chris and Rob i will explain what i used and how,

Both panels were primed in black then i used Revell enamel matt #84 dark brown as a base coat for both panels.
Panel 1: once the base coat was dry i sprayed a light coat of Revell matt #80 mid brown this was to highlight the panel and give a mid rust tone then i used a bright orange to simulate fresh rust Revell matt #85 i dried the panel under a lamp until touch dry then put a small amount of all the above colours on my palette and used the sponge technique.

Panel 2: on this panel i wanted a darker rust colour so i highlighted a few areas with Revell matt#80 mid brown and left it at that no sponge technique this time.

Once both panels are dry i gloss coated them with Revell gloss #01 i left them to harden for 24 hours then sprayed some hairspray into the lid and filled my airbrush and gave the panels 2 light coats i left these over night as i have found with my hs it needs time to harden.

Then for both panels i used Tamiya dark yellow thinned 50% with rubbing alcohol sprayed 2 light coats until it just covers the dark base on the first panel i used Tamiya Nato green as camo but it didnt show up well once chipped.

Then it was just a case of chipping and scratching the panel to you taste.

Nice to see all those wonderfull examples of the HS tech which is much fun to do and fairly easy...

Here's my example

one of the things I obtained on the whitewash is a 'crackle' effect on the whitewash: I wasn't too happy with it in the beginning, but it gave the endresult a little extra 'oomph'...Still don't know exactly how it happened though ;D

Stevereid: i decant the hairspray into my airbrush i find you can control how much you put on better and seems to give flatter smoother results im not speaking for the others these are my findings hope this helps.

Tony, where have you been hidding that thing? Did you loose it out in the snow again?

I love seeing all these great first attempts at the HS technique. As with any technique, if you don't try it you won't learn it. You will also see what you've done wrong, or rather what to do different next time round. It really is a great technique, especially for worn w/w winter camo.

I remember this from the old forum it looks awesome dude well done

Another junk car and great use of the HS tech. Was it done with HS or the AK stuff ?

Oh man Jamie, those look fantastic. The wingie stuff in very impressive. I will use these pics as ref when I finally do my Jap plane.
