hello friends... it is time to start the next project right away... this idea i have in my mind quite for some time right now... you all know this beauty. i started the build just before my french dio, but put it aside as i started the models for the french dio... i plan to finish the abrams over the next couple days and then start with the base... i am still looking for some nice tank commander and some nice arabian with a camel. if someone can push me in some direction to find these, that would be good... :-) so the general idea is putting the abrams on a middle east desert road in full speed, passing some nomads (one) with his camel... things planned to try out are getting some components in the vignette that simulate some sort of speed or movement... and getting my air brush and weathering skills better... the abrams is a trumpeter kit and will be completely out of the box. if there is some abrams specialist: these tubes atop the main barrel are just for a "training" version of the tank? am i right? in a battle commissioned tank it would be removed?

Nice project!
Maybe I have a donkey in my stash left, with a beduine (from MasterBox if I remember right).

ok, after todd's figure push i found some dromedars bedouins and on the verlinden site (absolute dangerous for your eyes by the way... :-) )
also masterbox has some as supplementary figures in some of their sets... and the bedouin on the donkey is one of my favorites...
it is just too lovely as he sits on the small donkey... :-)

Another interesting project!! I'm curious to know how you are going to go about achieving movement in the diorama, this one I will be following closely mate. I have a spare set of Masterbox "domestic animals" that I don't intend using anymore, it features a goat which might be suitable within the scene. It's yours if you would like it! Somewhere in my stash I also have a pre painted Tamiya horse as well...hit me up if you need either one. Good luck with the rest of this project, Shay

today i was playing around with the size of the base... just for the size of the abrams the base will be as large as for my french dio and maybe bigger...
and i wanted to do something smaller this time... ;-)
ahhh, a herd of goats... ;-) thats a really nice idea shay... if you do not intend to use it anymore, it would make this a partner diorama... ;-)
right now i plan to simulate some sort of dust trail behind the m1, as a indication of movement and speed... i already have some fine synthetic cotton wool lying around on my workbench... drape it behind the tank and spray it dusty... sounds simple... buuuuuuut... :-)
so back to the workbench, finishing the last bits of the m1 beauty...

hey sabre, great findings there you got... the verlinden and brach models figures are already on my wishlist... :-) but the unicorn and tiger models camels are also lovely... i think i just mix the brach figure with the unicorn camel...
apparently this dio also becomes a figure painting exercise... :-)

Glad to help mate, I did like the look on those Tiger Productions Camels faces myself and I could just imagine them looking at a Tank going past at full speed kicking up dust, maybe even getting some air as it went over a bump in the road. Evolution Miniatures do a couple of nice figures that may fit in with the camels. The first figure with his mouth aghast and the other one pointing I reckon mated with those dumb founded looking camels, as if they were all in astonishment at seeing a Tank go so fast would work.

There is a very easy way to find things you want or to see what is available. Go to google then click on images. I hardly ever use normal google but use google images nearly every day. When in google images just type in what you are looking for and pages of pictures will come up so much quicker than checking web address located through normal google. For example on google images I typed in 1:35 scale camel. All the above images and more came up. So you just look through until you find something of interest then click on it to go to the page. If that page does not give you the info you want then at least you know what you are looking for and can look further. For this hobby Google "IMAGES "is fantastic.

If you go to Google IMAGES and type in 1:35 scale arab figure Quite a few show up. Maim appear to make several, as well as other brands.

google image search is also my favorite tool... but you know, sometimes asking people gives you some more directions to look at... ;-)
so today i continued at the abrams... damn, i realize that the abrams was my second model and tried to build it without proper tools... also i found all the sink marks i left over... :-( :-)
now i think i just use this tank as a exercise object for future painting exercises... i still have a nice dragon m1a2 sep in my stash... but this one is already reserved for some other idea... ;-) so i was searching for some replacement for the trumpeter, i think i will change it with the dragon m1a1 aim instead...
also with all the nice possibilities of figures and animals that can be placed i do not want to spoil the dio with a crappy build tank...

Great that you are starting another diorama build!!! Pulling my chair in too. You won't be disappointed with those miniatures from Evolution Miniatures.

so, yesterday my new colors for the camouflage scheme arrived... ;-) sure you just wonder what the heck is wrong with this guy. but wait, i lift the secret around the paint scheme in this post preparing a nice piece of styrene for some test painting... priming it with vallejo primer in a neutral grey... i hate vallejo... do you see these annoying marks??? i do not know, what this time was the problem... slowly kicking all the vallejo stuff out of my mancave and replacing them with tamiya paints... i just love to spray with them... starting to exercise a little bit with Jose Luis Lopez Black&White Technique. just basic.... the blue mix looks quite right... ;-) and the orange is also extra badass... :-) the clever audience just smells the direction in which the abrams will go... :-)

Looking good!!! I don't have any issue with my Vallejo paint or primer. I notice it works best if you spray lightly in layers instead of just doing one heavy coat at once. 75% of my paint is from Vallejo now and I am pleased with the results. I used to use AK and MIG but they are being phased out of my shelves...

all the people i know do not have issues with vallejo... it must be something personal between me and this paint... ;-)
also vallejo paint always clogs my airbrush... already tried everything from different paint thinner ratios, pressure and and and... with tamiya i do not get these issues... also life color works for me... next i want to try ak and ammo...

so, yesterday my new colors for the camouflage scheme arrived... ;-) sure you just wonder what the heck is wrong with this guy. the clever audience just smells the direction in which the abrams will go... :-) OH I Get IT! you are going to "camouflage" with bright colors. Then the tank shows up better and since nobody would paint a real tank those colors, it must there for be a fake and not worth shooting at. Also part II of your clever plan is to create a bright blue and orange base which is the battle flag of a nonexistent armor brigade. Which completes the misdirection. Boy! I bet you would never thought I could figure it out so fast did you? ... going back for my nap now.

Did you ever try "Vallejo Air"? They dont clog the AB, never had any issues with them.

Sorry about your poor results with Vellejo. I've always found it to work well. Tamiya also makes excellent paint and I used those for years before switching.
I have no idea what you're planning with the tank. But bright colors are often much more interesting than the traditional dull tones we use on military vehicles.

hmmm, that surprises me... i thought posting this color combination was a too big hint... :-) ok... do i give you another hint or do i just let you wait... ;-)
probably it is just my error how i handle vallejo colors... i do not want to blame vallejo, cause with everyone else their color is working nicely...
