I know that I have one or two (*cough*) other projects going right now, but I figured I'd best get this thread rolling before I get too far along on this bird! Following up on my recent Hasegawa Ki-44 build (and needing a 48th multiprop build for the fall shows!) I've cracked into Tamiya's Ki-46. Figured I'd do a run of Japanese Army birds before I start in on the Navy stuff. Only have one pic to show, a shot from the upstairs (read: in front of the football tv) bench. Lots of dry fitting going on to figure out what needs paint where...as well as which parts of the build will be visible to determine if I'm going to add the etch bits. Using the wonderful little Eduard Zoom set on this one which has a lot of usable parts. Didn't take a pic of the box art, but this should do: www.tamiyausa.com/items/plastic-model-series-20/1-48-scale-aircraft-20000/mitsubishi-ki-46-iii-type-100-61092More soon!

So umm I thought you didn't want to get into another genre...lol. Looks like you failed miserably there. So exactly how many Japanese airplabe kits have you bought? Looks like a nice project to distract you from your other projects great progress so far!

Hahaha...I DIDN'T! I've managed to avoid the Japanese stuff for nine years, but one of my newer club members is really big into it and it rubbed off. A lot. And I didn't buy any other Japanese kits. ==> that sounded believable, right?

Sounds like a fun project, looking forward to more on this one.

It does...just because YOU didn't buy them doesn't mean someone else wasn't responsible for the acquisition! So you're saying it was my stash-building alter-ego who bought didn't buy more kits?

Been plugging away, but not really anything to take pics of - just grinding off all of the soft detail bits that are destined to be replaced by the Eduard parts. More soon!

Interesting kit Dupes. Understand completely how distraction followed by temptation followed by stash growth occurs. That's got me muddling through about 15 partial builds right now. Thought about throwing them all into one group build blog to try to force myself into finishing them.
All that's kept me from starting the one I really want to start, a 1/32 heinkel 111.
Dinah should build up really nice. I'll be peeking in on this one.

Yeah Dupes. It's big. Wingspan is 2 inches more than Airfix's 1/24 Mossie. About 28 inches I'd like to see Dinah or a Betty in 1/32.

Alright. So today is Wednesday...first of the fall shows is on Sunday. That means that I have four evenings to wrap this monster up if I want a 48th multiprop. Can it be done? Let's see where I am currently: All of the parts are cleaned up and prepped for assembly or paint (or already painted when I was working on other stuff). Everything for the innards is ready to install and the canopy masks are on. Finished up all of the pre-paint PE parts last night. Need to fire the IJA interior green (XF-71, I believe) then apply the color PE bits and seal up the fuselage. Closeups of the etch: Certainly adds a good bit of detail to both pits and makes them look considerably more busy than out of the box. Will add a lot more color as well once the pre-painted parts are on. Now I just have to hope you can see some of it when the glass is added!

Some nice work there Dupes! Toughest part about detailing in aircraft if you ask me...all the work on the interior and it barely get seen sometimes! We know its there though!

WE do...but will the judges? Hahaha. The instructions provide no guidance about canopy operation - I need to figure out if these are hinged-type or slidey-type. Gotta open them up!

You're a better man than me is all I gotta say. There aint no way....no way I'd have an entire multi prop aircraft done in four days. I'd be lucky to show up with just the cockpit done!!!
Nice progress so far.

Ooooh, those are perfect! I had a feeling that might be the case - I came across a model of the upper pic (Tamiya makes multiple variants) that had the hinged/folded canopy, but mine is the lower pic, which clearly is sliding glass sections. Thanks T!

Glad I emerged from the rock I was under to find this post. Can't thank you enough for posting that link. Just a day or two ago I was think how great it would be of there was a place to look up what AM stuff is available for a particular kit in one place.

No prob! Yeah, I use scalemates a lot for kit research. I don't think that they have EVRYTHING, but awfully close in most cases.
Going blind finishing up the photoetch bits...hope I can see to paint this thing!
