Though I can't prove any of these ever existed, in my experience with anything regarding WW2, never say never. Most of these were based of the Crusader chassis in several guises, the most simple and numerous of which was to just plate over the turret ring and mount a bog stock 40mm Bofors with either a standard shield, or in some cases a more enclosed around the sides shield, straight on top, (there was a more 'engineered' version where the gun sat inside an open turret that also sat lower down in the chassis) The kit-bash revolves around the 1/76 scale kits from Airfix of their 40mm Bofors and their Cromwell chassis, I intend this model to depict a vehicle that has just come off the LST onto the beach and is set to provide air cover. Progress so far..... C&Cs please gents ATB Sean

Interesting idea! Sometimes the "what ifs" are worth doing for the sake of seeing what they would have looked like!!!!!
Needless to say I'm expecting your usual quality job!!!!

I believe the construction side of this project is now complete, short of the gun sights which are on their way from Milicast as I type this....... On to scratch building some ammunition boxes, quite how I'm unsure as neither type used for the Bofors is straight forward in ANY way ATB Sean

I like the look of this beast! The 40mm Bofors certainly gives the old cruiser chassis a meaner look.

Construction done apart from a 40mm ammo box that is probably going to take longer to make than the rest of the vehicle because of all the greenstuff work that needs to be done to it.... Anyhoo.... pics.... Paint soon..ish ATB Sean

Primer, a variation on a 'black & white' undercoat using a darkened burnt umber instead of black in light of the top coat colour. Base colours on, special mix of SCC15 for the trunking, ammo boxes, fuel cans and ammo cover to give visual interest, then a couple of coats of a special mix SCC2 to represent a vehicle that didn't make it to re-painting to SCC15 before deployment. Detail painting when this all dries..... ATB Sean
