Working on an oldie but a goodie...well except the Scout Figure. He's not such a goodie. The kit: Generic OOB assembly last week: As of right now the kit is assembled and primered, with the exception of the fenders and foot 'pads'. I want to paint the undercarriage before attaching the fenders, and the footpads will need to site under the rider's feet. Also the front fork assembly isn't attached yet. Here's an overview - primer is Vallejo German Panzer GreyAs for 'tweaking', here's what I've done; Added a brass collar to the rear of the round intake, drilled out the rivet detail around the round intake and did my best to eliminate the seams on the body and rescribe the panel. If you know the kit you know how much of a dog those side intake panels are. I hinged the rear flaps and added rivot detail to the top of the hinge (not pictured) using rivet s from a 1/35 tank wheel. I opened all of the slots in the controls & adding a blank underneath - so you don't see right through, but there's a 'dust cover' like my car's shifter. This just adds depth to that detail, and a good place for dust to accumulate. On the rear stowage area I added 4 plates, rivets again and paperclip U tie downs. There will be stowage and straps added later. Finally, I replaced the throttle cable with guitar string, and replaced the handles with cable from a car's remote mirror. The ends of the handles are from guitar strings as well (the anchor on the end) Not pictured are 4mm springs that will replace all the kit hoses. I also thinned the thickness of all 4 front steering vanes and replaced the kit's gun barrel with rod and tube. Time for this to get a good night's cure. Base coat starts tomorrow....and then there's that figure to deal with ....

Rob, thanks man and no worries dude. You got a party to host here...I understand.
Robbo - thanks. Should be fun, and trying some "armor" weathering techniques on a Star Wars subject will be interesting.

Thanks guys! Yeah, this thing should be considered part musical instrument. lawl. Got the base colors on tonight. I tried flat black...but it looked wrong. Went with semi gloss black and then red brown with just a touch of buff. I have some touch ups to go and then the little detail painting (buttons etc...). Should be able to do that at noon tomorrow and then weather tomorrow night. Pic doesn't really get the colors dead on.

Thanks guys! Gotta say, I'm a fan of the Star Wars stuff. Looks very cool indeed Scott - she gonna get a nice loggy/ferny base? I would have to say yes, but minimal square inches. I just want to suggest the environment; not try to make a forest floor.

Thanks guys. It's 1/11 (some say 1/10). +++ OK. Tonight I touched up airbrush over spray, hand painted some details and then a coat of Satin Varnish. Since then I have been working on the first dot filter. I used oils (Bunt Umber & Raw Sienna) and put many dots on the brown areas. Then I more or less flooded with AK Thinner...well not flooded, but alot. I'd dry this under the hair dryer and then use a damp brush to pull off visible oil etc... I say all that to say that I'm not 100% satisfied. Mainly because of the tide marks that I can't seem to get rid of. Any suggestions? This is a reference pic I'm working from: Here's my progess: Thanks!

To be honest on a couple things Scott....first, I thought the reference picture was the kit at first...duh!!! Secondly. The tide marks are noticeable but I was thinking that they were water staining on the metal finish. Did you try re-flooring with eh white spirits? Any of the AK stuff should still be able to be manipulated Maybe some AK rain marks added? Will you be laying down some dust washes? These may help as well! Still looks awesome Scott!!! (barely noticeable)

Thanks. It's evaporating...
Yeah, lots of layers to come dude. A few more filters and then AK galore...then silver pencil for weathering the black steel. Just tried that a bit actually, works great. Oh and the AK pigs too....

Thanks very much guy...
DickyF - Actually we see in 'Jedi' that the Scouts do stand around quite a bit with the bikes at rest. I intend to have this in flight however I would think some of the rainmarks could be vertical stains...

Thanks for the comments guys! +++ Tonight I've been kinda bouncing around a bit. First - a flat coat then some post shading with the airbrush...then some AK Dust FX, sponge chipping, washes, AK grime...some pencil. The AK Dust still needs to be feathered a bit but I'll leave it overnight and touch things up tomorrow sometime. In the meantime some pics.
