I'm liking this a lot Andrew! The addition of the hinges was a very good idea, and the addition of the climber on the side is cool. I agree with Bill - any slogans should be monochrome, although they would also probably be a death-sentence for the inhabitants, and anyone living nearby, as the German occupiers frowned upon that sort of thing.

Is the frog clock going to be mounted on those interior beams? BobI've spent the last 12 hours or so mulling over the idea of incorporating a bubble belching frog clock*** and although it would obviously be an interesting 'compliment' to Guy's warrior toad theme, I have have rejected the concept for the following reasons: - Although Sean is fond of saying 'never say never' where WW2 is concerned, I think such an addition would taking even that maxim a step or 100 too far;
- I just don't have the skills or equipment;
- I think though the clincher though is.........good taste..........pure and simple!
Needless to say though I hope I have not offended you with the rejectection of your bonkers intriguiging suggestion.
Andrew
*** If anyone wants to know what on earth Bob and I are on about then let me know!!!
Nice work so far, I like the idea of maybe a first floor window having a Tri-colour, or maybe even a liberating forces flag instead, hanging from it as a focal point. SeanCheers mate! Thanks as always for stopping by and the suggestion - which is far more sensible than others I could think of**. I am beginning to wonder if a flag might be the way to go but I will have a look at around for some ideas. Andrew **Yes Bob I do mean you! I'm liking this a lot Andrew! Alright Andrew, maybe the clock idea was a bit over the top. Maybe you could work in some concrete cows behind the building. If this ever made a model show, it'd be a great inside joke that people from the M-K area would recognize. All levity aside, you're doing some fine work on this.

Looking good Andrew. Using the string to make your creeper / vine - excellent idea ! Must remember that one. Historical correctness etc .... don't over think things - keep it fun ( My humble opinion only )

The vine looks spot on Andrew, it's a nice touch to fill up a vacant space that is need of detail! I know you are happy in this scale but have you thought of moving up to 1/35? Plenty of room to expand on your modelling skills! Just my five quid mate!

As for the concrete cows....I'll have to give that one some serious consideration!! Andrew Looking good Andrew. Using the string to make your creeper / vine - excellent idea ! Must remember that one. Historical correctness etc .... don't over think things - keep it fun ( My humble opinion only ) PeterThanks for stopping by and the feedback. I'm pleased you've find my idea useful - not to mention being slightly stunned that I've managed to provide a little bit of inspiration to someone of your ability! It took two attempts to get it right. I initially tried PVA glue but that didn't adhere to the plastic well, so I had to resort to superglue which has worked much better and given the string a much harder wood-like(ish) feel. I ended up doing it in three stages - glue the main trunk to the wall and let it dry, then the separate the secondary branches, glue them in place and let them dry before doing the individual string threads for the final bit. As for over thinking things.....it's one of my most consistent problems with life in general.... Thanks again. I looking at it one evening thinking that's a lot of bare wall even for a war-gaming model and then inspiration struck - I have no idea where from but I'm glad it did!!! As for 'going large'!!! I'd like to one day, but a 1/35 Tiger would like slightly out of place on a 1/72 battlefield!!! The other issue us a complete - and I mean complete - lack of space in my house to display anything... . Perhaps I need to put some more shelves up! Thanks as always for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Andrew

Bugger shelves mate, every now and then Lidls have display cabinets in, normally around £60 for the small one, which is roughly 18" square by about 6" deep, and £100 for the big one which is twice the height of the smaller one, I've got 2 of the smaller ones on top of one another just by my kitchen door to display all my braille stuff, I've got a tall slim cabinet I made years ago for all my big stuff.
Just an idea to keep in mind.

Hi all A little bit of an update on the plastic kit house part of this WIP - although this is actuallly more of a request for comments and advice on where I'm at. Although it's probably not very obvious from the photos, the exterior walls aren't completely smooth and there is a little bit of texture but not much. So I thought I'd add a bit more texture - think a very warn/crumbling/uneven render of some sort (hopefully) - using the cast metal technique afvfan aka Bob helpfully described on his Char build ( here). It took a bit of trial and error as the plastic Armourfast uses seems not to respond initially in the way I was expecting and seemed quite tough at first - but I worked out a method in the end. I've done one wall as 'test' and whilst it needs a bit of refinement and it's a bit coarse in places, I think it's heading in the right direction and is an improvement...........hopefully you'll all agree..... So have a look and let me know what you think - should I keep going or give up on the process? ? Thanks as always for your advice Andrew PS - You'll notice I've broken a few windows, which I think work..... PPS - Bob, thanks agan for sharing the cast technique. PPS - whoever it was recommended flikr instead of PB for photos - THANK YOU!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Untreated wall (the blemish in the middle is a glue spillage not a lens issue - oops!)Treated wall

Texture looks good to me Andrew! If you want to add glass (broken or otherwise) you could cut up clear plastic from blister packs and glue them in place with PVA - I think that should work at that scale.

If you wanted to go a step further with the damage, you could add some bullet scars to add to the 'why' the windows are broken. Just a thought.

Hi Andrew. I prefer your textured wall over the plain wall but looking at it - especially above the height of the window, the texture may be a bit out of scale if this is 1/72. Something I have experimented with only a little, but may be worth also trying ............ as another option ?. Good old tissue paper that you buy in a box when you have a cold. Cut it out in the shape of your walls and place it on and paint it with a mix of 50/50 white glue and water with a soft brush. You would need to gently brush out any creases trying to avoid it ripping. This may give you a nice texture. Hey - only a suggestion. Would not take long to try and easy to pull of, while glue is still wet, if you don't like it.

The texture under that right eave does look a bit heavy. You might try reworking it, or maybe just sanding it down a bit (which would also take care of any other sections you feel are too course). The lower 2/3s of the wall looks great, though.
As Dierk mentioned, I think some window panes would be a nice addition.

Nice work on the textured wall Andrew! I like it. Leon - yet again thanks for stopping by and the encouragement!! Texture looks good to me Andrew! If you want to add glass (broken or otherwise) you could cut up clear plastic from blister packs and glue them in place with PVA - I think that should work at that scale. Dierk - glad you like it and thanks for the suggestion re the 'glass' it hadn't occurred to me and I really like it!! Fortunately I was able to go through my recycling rubbish yesterday evening and retrieve some before the bin men collected it this morning!! If you wanted to go a step further with the damage, you could add some bullet scars to add to the 'why' the windows are broken. Just a thought. Bill - a big thank you for yet another emminently sensible suggestion!! It's almost like you've been at this modelling lark for quite some time?!?!? I had actually thought of doing some right at the beginning of the build but forgot about it - so thank for jogging my memory!! All I have to is to work out how to do it! Would not take long to try and easy to pull of, while glue is still wet, if you don't like it. Peter - No need for the worried look!!! I put it out for for exactly this sort of reason, the rest of you out there have been at this for so much longer than I and have used techniques I've never even dreamed of. You're are right though the bit above the windows needs redoing - I started at the top and worked my way down, hence the bottom looking better as my technique improved! The texture under that right eave does look a bit heavy. You might try reworking it, or maybe just sanding it down a bit (which would also take care of any other sections you feel are too course). The lower 2/3s of the wall looks great, though. As Dierk mentioned, I think some window panes would be a nice addition. Hi Bob - I knew the top right under the eaves was a bit heavy but hadn't realised just how bad until I looked at the photos - why is it always like that??? I'll probably have a go at sanding it back a bit first and then have another crack! As for the 'glass' watch this space. Thanks as always to you all for stopping by!! Andrew

Don't forget to add some glass fragments and (maybe) frame pieces to the ground below the broken windows.

I really like the idea of frame pieces as well.....now which bin was it I threw them in? Oh that's right, the one that got cleared out for yesterday's rubbish collection...DOH!! Maybe I can work something out..... Thanks as always for stopping by!! Andrew

Hi Andrew, this is going great so far and I am enjoying the re-learning process. For your frame fragments, try twisting and snapping a coffee stirrer and then cutting it to the required size! Or try splitting and snapping matchsticks, which may also work. Keep up the good work Paul

Fortunately, I have a reasonable supply of both to hand!! I have enjoyed the learning process and have been surprised that for the most part what I've tried has worked to some extent and not been a bit of a disaster. Thanks again. Andrew

Hi all Thanks yet again to everyone for their input so far. I've managed to a little bit of work and finished off roughening up the other three walls. I decided to stick with the glues and wire brush method for consistency. Although I'm generally pleased with how it's turned out, I think some of needs a bit of a rub down as it's a bit to rough in places. Peter - I'm going to try your tissue paper idea on the chimney stack just to see how that works as I did like the idea. As usual all comments, observations and sensible** suggestions are welcome! All the best. Andrew ** Bob looking at you!!

Looks good so far, Andrew. I gather, when all is said and done, that gap showing at the roof line will be gone? Looking at moi? Granted, you have to have a pretty warped view at times, but all my suggestions are sensible in some way. Keep in mind you're talking to a person who once stuck a catapult in the back of a truck and called it a Polish self propelled gun.
