So I'm guessing whatever you you to make the mould, doesn't get hot enough to melt the plastic. Andrew Correct. The liquid rubber turns into solid rubber over a period of about 24 hours. There are formulations which do become exothermic during their cure. However this is not one of them. I'll create a separate thread when I finally get around to creating a mold for the 1/35 stormtrooper figure where you will be able to see how the whole thing works. Five days on the road and then finally back to work on the lander. I was able to get the front end and loading ramp constructed. A lot of work for not much to see. Plastic putty and more sanding over the next couple of days.

Several days of work are combined into this post. But I saw no reason to bore the group with baby steps. As expected, there are some rough spots in the second layer of plastic. Let there be Bondo! My hope is that this highly recommended stuff will fix the worst of it. It does look as though it stands up to all the hype. It's easy to sand and easy to control. It does produce a lot of dust or sludge if you're wet sanding.
Also started work on some of the topside details. These double doors in the roof are meant to be an escape hatch (Or so says my reference drawing.) But an escape hatch in this location doesn't jibe well with the interior pictures I've seen. Oh well. It's Star Wars. Perhaps we're just meant to enjoy it and not ponder too deeply about the engineering aspects. (Looks a lot like the wing of a TIE Fighter if you ask me.) Fits on here like this.
I've also begun work on the pilothouse as well as the engines.....which are still giving me a hellofa time. Edit: Forgot to post this before taping the ramp in place. Final light levels and ramp surface:

Looks the canine's danglies, John! Wait. I've got something stuck in my canine? Where's the floss, dammit! Thank you, gents. I've been having trouble getting a bubble-free casting from the landing strut mold. This was the first to turn out well. I think the mold has finally begun to turn out good copy. Combined here with a "foot" casting, which came out just fine on the first try. And engine.....still working here. But I think I've got something which will turn into a good casting.

Super John, coming along fantastically. The feet and struts look class. You should team up with Industria Mechanika, maybe go into production.

Nice bit of casting there John! Well, you don't look like a spring chicken, so maybe I got it wrong and it's your canines that are dangling?

You should team up with Industria Mechanika, maybe go into production. It's a lovely thought. But I think Disney would sue our arses in about 2.4 milliseconds. Engine grey. Engine mold box.
24 hours to vulcanize in the pressure pot. I'm a little worried about the very thin sections of the exhaust not being rendered well in resin. Stay tuned.

Fingers crossed for the casting! I think you're right about Disney...they take their licensing rights very seriously. That and they have a lot of bored lawyers...

"Working World" became active for a while and proved detrimental to the model building. Even if progress is slow, I'll be sure to post up at least one picture each week of where things stand. Main engines are being contoured to fit the hull and the master for the secondary engines is about 70% done. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get the master into mold rubber tonight. The white rectangle things are the "shield generators" so says my reference material. They go up on the roof. Be sure to tune in next week. Same Bat place, Same Bat channel!

As slowly as this is moving, it is moving. I think once all of the resin casting of the four engines is complete, it will move pretty quickly towards completion. Weekly update: Engine master and shield generators. Pattern and mold box.
Gave it an hour for the bubbles to float to the top and then into to pressure pot it went.
And shield generators. "I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational..." www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGwDwx10wB4
That's it for this week's installment. Thanks for watching!
