Don't get too excited, but here's my entry: AMT's AT-ST from the last millennium. Box art: One sprue, two bits of hull - one of them fitted with a wind-up clock-work mechanism - that's it: Hollow legs! I need some scratch building practice anyway, so from that point of view I couldn't have bought a better kit Be a while before I start it, I need to finish my '250 first.

Nice base to work with Dierk!! Can't wait to see you dig in!! Get that 250 out of the way and make some room!

After my little SNAFU with the '250 I decided to try and get to a happy place by digging into the kit after all: cut all 8 (!) parts from the sprue, drilled out all 6 guns and removed the clock-work mechanism. The drilling was a pretty hair-raising affair as the plastic is both hard and brittle. Now, time to check out some reference pictures and try and come up with a way of articulating the legs Battery on the camera is charging, so pics later.

I have indeed - hence the need to try and articulate the legs. The idea I'm playing with is that the AT-ST has just stepped into a noose and is having one of its legs pulled out from under it, about to topple onto one, or more sharpened tree trunk(s). Only fly in the ointment is that I have absolutely no jungle type stuff - Eastern Front not being very jungley.

I would go for some ferns as undergrowth..if you rescale this and print them off with a little work you can mass produce them too. Maybe some fallen logs also? I used licorice roots which you can find amongst spices in various shops. I have a few spare somewhere if you need some? I used one on this base..

Thank you very much indeed for the offer! Any donations would be more than gratefully received!
Jeez, I just checked out some pictures - even the lego version is more accurate than this kit...surprising really as this kit is licensed merchandise...

Dierk, I found these in my stash. Added the ruler so you can get an idea of the scale. If you want them I don't mind posting them to you!

Dierk - this is definitely NOT the kit I was thinking of! I'll pull mine out tonight to get a kit number and part count.

Even the box art looks a little off from my memories of the film. This could be a case for a good return on labor investment if you choose the right areas to scratchbuild. At least the legs look reasonably close to the original. You could reposition those with minimal time. It's the blaster cannons on each side of the hull which draw my eye as being the most out of place.

I was wondering about that one Dupes - just thought 'nah, different strokes for different folks' and put it down to me just being more nit-picky and rivet-countery due to my krauty heritage "This could be a case for a good return on labor investment if you choose the right areas to scratchbuild." To be honest John, to turn this into an actual AT-ST as seen in the movies I'd have to scratch virtually the whole thing...apart from the roof and maybe back of the hull and bits of the legs - I'll probably end up doing a bit of a half-ar$ed job and be happy so long as it bears a passing resemblance to the real thing from a distance in the dark. "That bubble is depending on you!!" You have to be strong now Andrew - but I don't hold out much hope for the longevity of your bubble Main armament (wrong): Front of the hull (wrong in more than one way - no bay window on the real thing, wrong shape armour plate...): Side of the hull (wrong - yes, that depression in the top right is a 'window') drilled out the shallow depressions and added some Masterclub bolts - one hole isn't deep enough, have to shorten the bolt): The side-mounted blasters...I'll do something with them... Couln't be ar$ed to waste pixels on taking a picture of the feet - only the outer half is there, have to scratch the inner half. Worst of all, the hull is rigidly pointing forward, the joint that allowes it to articulate isn't even hinted at... No idea how this thing managed to get a license as Star Wars merchandise... So much for starting this kit to get to 'a happy place' Thanks for popping by, all finger-pointing, jeering, and exclamations of WTF is strongly encouraged!

Well, Andrew not much: some bits of the legs don't look too bad - but because of how I plan to pose it I have to chop them about. The general shape of the upper hull is liveable with. The roof and back look OKish. The boxart does look good Frank, shame about the kit (Aussen hui, innen pfui ) Well, I did say I need some scratch building practice...

Thanks Shay!!! Well, I've had a change of heart: I was going to do the bare minimum scratch-wise, mostly because I'd already drilled out the - wrong - main armament, and done a pretty decent job of it. But now I've started cutting into the main hull to replace the front plate - no point just peeking into the rabbit-hole, might as well jump in and see where it takes you! Anyway, wouldn't want Andrew's bubble to suffer terminal damage I will draw the line at doing a full interior though

Upper hull with the front plate removed: Still need a bit more filing to get the sape right.

One question: Why don´t you use the Bandai kit?? It would be less time consuming?! But on the other hand, getting the max out of a kit not as good is far more satisfying!

Hmm, let me see Frank...Bandai AT-ST on evilbay €40 incl. postage from Japan, and knowing my local postal service probably 20% import duty and a 30km round trip to pick it up. AMT kit €12,90 free postage, 2 days later ding-dong at the door and it was here. Nuff said. And where's the challenge in building, what appears to be, a brilliant kit? Admittedly, had I know then what I know now my choice of kit would've been a different one. I'm the first to admit that my kit purchasing history is not without its blemishes...

Indeed Dierk..anything hitting Europe from the other side of the ocean ends up with hidden costs. For an example..I paid 70€ for nine boxes of Tamiya dinosaurs, 30€ in postage costs. Box arrived today with a whopping 50€ import tax and some extras because customs (which they always do) opened and resealed the box. Now, it is still cheaper than sourcing stuff like this locally. The Tamiya dino kits range from 40-50 € a piece but that said, I have paid very large double figure costs for one stupid kit from outside the EU!! One Gundam kit I paid for in the past was 30USD,10USD shipping..arrived in Belgium with 50€ import tax plus 30€ on top form the border control to open and repack it.
