AHA! On of the best "logs" I have ever seen! And, gulp, have read yesterday, the Dragon 1:35 AT-AT would go for around 900$, hehe, that make him very sought I guess... Frank If that's true, then there will be many empty wallets but few builds I imagine.

I think, the price will explode when they are gone! Think of how much people are willing to pay for the FINEMOLDS MILLENIUM FALCON 1:72. And the Revell Re-Release is around $ 300. I mean, hey, they are still plastic kits! When I see Trumpeter 1:200 ships and what they are sold for, with thousands of parts?? Sometimes I think, the world goes mad...

Based on my work with the lander, I think I could scratch a 1/35 AT AT in about 3 months for about $100 in materials. $900 dammed well better include lighting and a full interior.

And an exploding head-with-smoke option...since they are billing it as a 'Battle of Hoth' collection! There's always the 1/144 option as a cheaper/smaller alternative...makes me wonder what the price tag will be for the 1/35 AT-ST...

That log is FREAKING AWESOME! Thanks Andy (and the others who like it), but I can't take any credit for it - all I've done is cut it to size and paint the ends black...mother nature is the one who did all the creative stuff. If anybody wants any, let me know how long and what diameter and I'll send it for postage. As mentioned previously, the climate around here means most wood ends up with lichen and/or moss on it, and there's plenty of it lying about. Just PM me with your requirements and I'll see what I can do. If the AT-AT really is going to be 900 bucks it could come complete with the planet Hoth for all I care - I ain't ever going to buy it! I have bought 1/1 motorcycles for a lot less in the past, and once they died I broke them up and sold them for spares - more often than not getting my money back. Might be a few days before the next pictorial update - I'm currently working on the base...pretty much virgin territory for me. I was hoping to cross the finish line before the end of the month, but I'm not sure I'm going to make it.

As for the price of the AT-AT: Have read it somewhere in an article about the Dragon SW kits. I could not believe it. A modeler meant, this kit is bigger than the studio scale model, which make it eating up tons of place. My limit for stuff like that is a max of Euro 200, if it is over I am out. Sometimes they think, modebuilders are like cows you can milk. And sadly, sometime they are right. The best are the prepaint film figures from Sideshow, where prices explode aftre they have sold out: The BALROG from LORD OF THE RINGS goes for over $1000 on the bay. Hell, it is a collectors market!
Dierk, I am very curious about the base! My wish would be lots of vegetation of all kind, but you will do it fine. First time or not, I stay tuned!

Well, if you're like me and not adverse to a bit of Schadenfreude this will tickle you: early yesterday morning I got rudely ripped out of the land of nod by the sound of the paper-recycling truck. My sleep-addled brain reminded me I hadn't pulled the bin out into road, so jumped out of bed and into my clothes, hurtled down the stairs opened the front door and went A over T on the frosty slab of granit that is our porch, ending up in a crumpled heap on the first step It must have looked quite funny, but being on the receiving end was less so. To add insult to injury (literally) they didn't even empty the bin, depite my heroic attempt to pull it out into the road Stairs are a bit of a no-no at the moment, so getting to the AB to give the AT-ST a coat of clear so I can give it some more weathering is a touch difficult, as two flights of stairs are involved... Here are some WIP pictures to give you an idea of where I'm heading with this: The tarp will get camouflaged with pigments, plant-debris and leaves. There's a sticky end (geddit: stick-y ) awaiting the poor chicken walker: The plants next to the path are mosses collected from the garden, the path is Dio Dump Mix'n'Mud (similar to Mud in a Pot) covered with a sprinkling of Dio Dump Autumn Ground Cover. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and any donations of a left knee are gratefully received.

OUCH!!!!! Bad news on the tumble Dierk! Hope the knee feels better soon. It's best to leave the acrobatics to the pros. Base is looking awesome! Great idea with the tarp and stick.

All the effort and they didn't even take it! That's German efficiency for you I guess...did they, at least, flash a 10-point score card for your heroic acrobatics? Poor chicken-walker is about to take its own tumble, I like it!

OK, that hurts. A lot! But you are a lucky one! Remember the guy in the beginning scene of Arnold Schwarzeneggers movie COMMANDO, when HE heard the dump truck and ran out of his bed. And got shot down with multiple gun hits. So, what is a knee against THAT?
Base looks very promising, so go on, build. I think you aren´t able to do more than that. HELL!

OUCH!!!!! Bad news on the tumble Dierk! Hope the knee feels better soon. It's best to leave the acrobatics to the pros. Base is looking awesome! Great idea with the tarp and stick. Nine years of working as a motorbike messenger taught me how to fall like a pro-am - but that was on flat surfaces...it's the stairs that did the damage. My reflexes took over and I must have somehow managed to twist around in mid-air, or I'd have landed on my back. All the effort and they didn't even take it! That's German efficiency for you I guess...did they, at least, flash a 10-point score card for your heroic acrobatics? Poor chicken-walker is about to take its own tumble, I like it! German efficiency is a thing of the past Bill - those days are long gone! High point score was definitely deserved, but thankfully nobody saw the tumble live - or it would already be on youtube in one of tose 'fail videos'. HELL! Frank Frank, you're a sick puppy! I'm pretty sure hitting the stairs like a sack of spuds in RL hurts more than some special effects MG rounds but I appreciate the thought. In my usual back-to-front style I've glued a strip of thick brown (shop didn't have any black) paper around the base. Just waiting for the glue to dry. Might have an update later today. Got a bit more movement back in the knee, but still hurts like f%&k.

Well, have checked this blog couple of times but failed to respond. However, a response is needed. What a great work you got there Dierk...I love Star Wars, like the AT-AT's and like the AT-ST's too. Great effort you put in this one. And the base makes it even cooler, like the idea of that trap under the tarp a lot Cheers

In an instance of art mimicking life, maybe you could wrap a rag soaked in hydraulic fluid around one of your walker's knees.

Thanks for coming out of the shadows Wouter, very much appreciated. In an instance of art mimicking life, maybe you could wrap a rag soaked in hydraulic fluid around one of your walker's knees. You're a cruel man - mocking the afflicted...

Yap, great idea and execution! But I wonder what have you done to prevent the log and lichen from rotting away some day??? Soaked it all with laquer?

Thanks for the kind comments gents!
Frank and Andrew: the short answer is 'bugger all' - the somewhat longer one is that I'm not that precious about my finished projects. Truth be told, I sort of lose interest once they're finished (often just before they hit the finish line) I don't enter in shows, and, although here I have the space to display them, it is a temporary abode and when I finally get to go home space is at a premium: finished models get put in plastic boxes and stacked away. What I'm going to do with diorama bases remains to be seen. Got the photos, that's pretty much enough for me.

Nice work Dierk. I particularly like your base. I have avoided using foliage from the garden due to the worry of it rotting. I find your Finished then Forgotten theory a little unusual but unusual seems to be the usual for most people here ....oddly enough.
