Hello,
I have a question for which I couldn't find the answer until now, despite my best efforts, regarding the use of the M41 light tank in Vietnam.
On tanks-encyclopedia there is a color profile of a M41 in USMC service in Vietnam. it's just that I couldn't find any real pictures of USMC M41's to proof it, except from the movie Full Metal Jacket (Hollywood, no comment).
On Wikipedia the tank's operational history regarding US service in general is rather short and only covers ARVN M41's in Vietnam. A second source says the M41 was used in Vietnam both by US and South Vietnamese units, a third source claims the M41 was not deployed by US forces in Vietnam.
So, if I rate the color profile with 0.5 (I've learned over the time not to trust them too much) it stands 1.5:2.0 against, and I have to assume the M41 was primarily used only by the ARVN in the course of the Vietnam war.
Is this correct, has anyone maybe more reliable input?

Hi Tobi Unfortunately, I'm unable to help with your question but I absolutely have to give you Karma for your Blackadder themed signature strap-line! . ATB Andrew

Tobi I've read in more than one place that the M-41 was no longer in the US inventory by the time US involvement in Vietnam started up. Regrettably I could not say what books/publications I have seen this in. I do know that the principle tanks used by the US were the M-48A2 and A3, the M-728 CEV, and the M-551 Sheridan. If you already know this sorry for being repetitive
Regards, Mark

No worries Mark and thank you, every input is welcome and appreciated. Sometimes it's enough to get confirmation of what you already know and if it's only to kill your doubts. Andrew, you know Blackadder is full of memorable quotes and this must be one of my favorites, because it applies in so many ways to what senior managers would sometimes ask from poor engineers like Dilbert and me! The other one being Prince Ludwig the Indestructible and his: "My apple-logies for ze inconweenience" So thanks for the Karma!

Absolutley no problem on the Karma and it's true Blackadder is indeed full of so many great quotes. Although I think my favourite 'manager' quote comes from when I'd just working full time, after leaving school, for a high street bank here in the UK - the line manager was useless (some customer's weren't great either) and someone had up on the wall: "We are the willing, led by the unknowing, doing the impossible, for the ungrateful.'
Even now it brings a smile to my face!

The M41 was used by the ARVN in Vietnam, and as far as I know they were the only users of it. Might have been South Vietnamese Marines way up north, but never saw many of them. Marines only used the M48 and the M67 tanks, but did field a few M50 Ontos's. Even by 68 they were not all that a common sight, but there were some out there.
The ARVN also used the M48a3, and maybe a few M48a2 (never saw one). gary

I know that this question was sort of answered several years ago, but I’ll add this follow up. This blog is written by a guy who does some pretty thorough research, and appears to know what he’s talking about. I don’t know if this is the last word on M41s in Vietnam, or elsewhere in combat, but it is pretty comprehensive. I’ve been following this blog for several years now and highly recommend it! Thank you very much Carlos for this useful link. I'm not completely through, but enjoyed the read so far. Very nice ARVN M-41 pics. I will use them. Luckily the project is still lingering in the stash and not started. I went to Playa Larga and Playa Girón when I was on Cuba in 2016 and saw a M41 exhibited at the museum.
