That was a quick week..... I've been short of modeling time lately, but have managed to do the roof of the turret: IMG_7020 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

T'anks! So today and yesterday I had a couple of hours each, and rather than stare at the turret, I played with the lower hull, just filling in where Italeri completely skated. It's not "accurate" but all the access paorts I added are in the "right" place, the belly armor is logical, as is the added plate on the lower glacis. I'm part way into skids for the forward torsion bar/swing arm stations, other than that the lower, lower hull is done. IMG_7021 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

My happy place: the first time I actually fit the full running gear and tracks: IMG_7023 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7024 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I think the Merk4 tracks are in character, more so than Merkava tracks would have been.

If you get any better with IDF Armor, you will have to emulate Wild Bill and start writing Magazine articles and/or books!

Russ, do you know why the IDF went to the "steel" track on the M48/60 family?

Actually I do. It was mainly due to the rocky and sandy terrain the IDF operates in and the very fast wear suffered by rubber track pads. Pics of Magachs with T-97 and T-142 tracks worn beyond belief, so: less wear, less maintenance time. Also a consideration, rubber pads were less harmful to pavement, not a huge consideration to the IDF, but I have a couple of pics of Magach 6B Gal Batash crews covering the path their tank will take over a blacktop road with old tires before they cross it, a fine dio subject.......

Okay, tracks are through the burnishing fluid and I've added a few more small bits, getting very close to paint, I think.... IMG_7205 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Jerry can, spare tracks, rails, gun travel lock..... What else do I need? IMG_7206 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

A couple of water bottles laying around on the top? lol.
I think you've got about everything that you can put up there on the topside Russ. Excellent stuff here.

A kitchen sink! Yeah, that's what I need..... I do see that I haven't added any of the small fire extinguishers the IDF has all over the outside, gotta do that.

T'anks Leon. I'm thinking the air cleaner service indicators are about all that's left on the hull, unless I decide to scratch up an obstacle clearing device.....

A bit! I spent a nice week in El Paso, getting a new hire up to speed, and even bought a model, no surprise. Other than that, I've had a few minutes here and there to model, not as much as I need to be in my happy place, dang it. Anyway, I did some bits on the rear fenders, a shovel bracket sans shovel, and spare track holders, can't think of too much more I want to do on the hull, unless I take a shot at an "obstacle clearing device", the thing on the from of the Magach5 I recently did. Anyhoo, pics: IMG_7717 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7718 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm still trying to show "evolutionary" improvements over the earlier Magach6 models, still enjoying the process.

Looks like some really good progress to me for no more time than you've been at the bench. I hear you on the lack of bench time though. I actually get my life back next week after our son shows his pig at the livestock show. Man I'll tell you....if anyone had told me just how much work was involved with this...….!!!! You've gotta feed/ tend to them in the morning and evening and it aint just drop the feed and go either.

I've got buddies with kids in 4H, and the show goats were killin' it, made me chuckle.... So, I'm back, hope to get this thing moving along soon. I'm close enough to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it's not the train at the other end.

A little more: I did a general wash with light brown, a scrub and a pin wash. I'm finally getting the complicated, busy look that I wanted. IMG_7834 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7835 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Clear, then markings are soon to come, tracks are in progress, and maybe some minor stowage. I expect I'll finish with a very light dusting with dry pastels, not much at all.

And a little closer. Tow cables, tracks, antennae, call signs, markings, and probably some more stuff is on, still needs more detail painting, turret MGs, optics, and surely something else I can't think of now..... IMG_7958 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7959 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7956 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_7957 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I think it looks more "IDF-ish" with the markings on, and of course the call signs. The draped tow cables are also very IDF, makes me happy.
