KISS volume 2: Same as the M51, small bits. They're starting to look noticeably different now. IMG_4858 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4859 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I was glad I was able to find the gun tubes (old Barrel Depot parts) in my very well organized stash. I spent a fair amount of time on the two mantlets, fixing the lumpy texture on the Dragon one and the shape of the Verlinden one.

I'm slow... I spent almost two hours doing this infantry phone box. IMG_5792 by Russel Baer, on Flickr It needs to be cleaned up a little, but it looks about the right size as what's in the pics I have.

Russ, which M50 turret do think has the best "shape" I have a DEF conversion, an MP kit, and a Dragon kit, and they all look the same to me! I welcome your opinion!

Opinions I have, in abundance.... I don't have a DEF turret myself, but I've read that it's pretty good. I know the MP turret is also right up there, especially considering its age, and I like the fact that it's plastic. The Dragon turret has a weirdly shaped and horribly textured mantlet, but the overall shape is pretty good. I've been hunting around for a DEF conversion, no luck so far, and I'll buy up the Dragon and MP kits at shows just on general principal, mostly to use for parts. I do have a hidden treasure waiting for a hopefully soon to happen build of a very late M60 on the M4A4 hull with HVSS, one of the beekster's M50 turrets, and in my most humble opinion, it's the absolute best out there. The counterweight shape and mantlet are spot on, absolutely gorgeous. He only had a few cast and I wish I'd bought a half-dozen, but at $50 each, I was only able to squeeze out for one. I regret that now......

Fixing that which bugs me: IMG_5880 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I think I was intending to do a very late M50 when I started this (Dragon) hull, back when I was a young sprout, hence the cast FDA. Since I went totally the other way, the 3-piece cover would be more appropriate, so an evening of hackery fixed that. The old MP covers aren't great, but since I used one, I decided to use one more, for the sake of continuity if nothing else.

T'anks Anthony. I'm gonna go sit down at the bench here in a few minutes, try something easy, maybe some Sherman bogies or something. Everything on the M50's and M51 is little detail stuff now, an eyestrain already.

Advil is my friend! Lots going on in two or three hour spurts. The M50 turrets are moving along, more spare parts used up, as well as some hull details on the "bet". IMG_5939 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm still getting lucky with different kit parts going right in with little or no modification, for instance both turrets accepting Tamiya loader's hatches with little or no changes necessary, very helpful.

Tools, turret fittings, empty smoke thingie mounts: IMG_6138 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_6139 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The grab handles on the lower hull sides were fun. I actually made a template to drill the holes, very proud of myself.

Nice to see that you are still doing that kit bashing thing Russ Matt Matt! Good to see you back! And yep, I'm out of control. I just loiter around on modelling forums (well, what's left of them) keeping an eye on 'trends' and stuff, lol You are indeed out of control, you have a lot of projects on the go all at once Matt

Too many, but I'm never stalled..... I'm always stalled, just been stalled for 6 years lol, I don't know how you keep track of all your builds to be honest, soo much stuff all on the go at once, and Sherman building is getting fashionable again, lots of people are getting interested in Sherman kits now. Matt

"Keep track"? Nice pun. Actually, I'm getting to the point of putting labels on the boxes that contain the parts for a particular project, otherwise I get confounded. And I just got into a Tamiya M3 Lee, along with the lower hull from one of their Grants. I have to admit I'm having a whole lot of fun, building just for the pleasure of trying to accurize those old dogs.

"Keep track"? Nice pun. Actually, I'm getting to the point of putting labels on the boxes that contain the parts for a particular project, otherwise I get confounded. Good idea. I started marking the boxes with a sharpy which ones had after market kits, book, etc. There can be too much to remember when in most cases I haven't touched the box in months, years.

And it's fun to re-visit boxes, just for fun or inspiration. So, I've been almost busy on these two as of late, and they are actually done, basically..... just need to add some basic crew gear, then it's paint time. IMG_6846 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_6845 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I've also gotta find some kind of rattle can color that looks like French OD, kind of a brownish green I think....

It's Vallejo, the new-ish spray cans. First I got a good coat of the US olive drab on, the a misted coat of "leather brown" to make it look more like post-war French OD. It's close to the color profiles I have, maybe a little too green still. I'll have to play round with the wash or filters later.
