Hello Rob, It is really a pleasure to see al the pics of this model! I understand your opinion concerning the question that i asked. You do a great job !!! I def. have to go to the bench now and figure out how to paint raw steel ! There is some project i also want to paint this way. Concerning the diorama, I think a (small) base in a factory will do the best... But this is only my opinion Grtz, G

Thanks Gert.
yeah a small base is the best bet, plain and simple.
Raw steel is very easy, and fun to do. Just have to remember it's all in the layers.

Sheesh jackwagon, that's a lot more than I planned on, but great idea bud. Will have to wait and see when I'm done if there is mojo left over to do a base. I have MANY other projects on the bench that are crying to be finished ((LOL))

Here is a size comparison image requested by Spud, the figure is 1/35 I didn't get much done yesterday, mainly the tracks and getting things ready for the show. I do have to say that the tracks do take some time to prime and paint. If you lay them flat and prime and paint then you will not get paint behind the track pads which will be seen. It took about 20 minutes to paint each run. If you are one of those who only primes and paints with rattle cans, then you may have a hard time getting these painted. You have to move each pads forward and back to get the paint behind them.

Makes sense that the tracks would be a paint challenge Rob but you've tackled them nicely.

Thanks Bill and Spud, yeah it took time but they got the paint on them. I started some rust but this will change with weathering.
That's it for me folks. The model was packed along with everything else I'm taking to the AMPS nats in Auburn. I'll be signing off the forum and won't be back until next week sometime. You all have a great week/weekend and happy modeling. Also good luck to all that entered the April MoM.
Asta Rob

This is shaping up to be a gorgeous build. The colours and the layering is really making it sing.

I would think the factory scene would be fantastic - more plates; some prepped and some rough would allow more weathering potential and a simple gantry, scattered tools and hanging chains as a backdrop would be easy and add height and scenery Dicky- Rob is on his way to the AMPS Nats so he won't be checking this. In a way, I agree with you. That would be ideal. But.... I have seen one of Rob's raw metal creations close up. This paint job has so much depth that I could just stare at it in amazement for an hour. The factory scene would be a distraction.... But, then again, if Rob goes for it; It will be one hell of a distraction. Steve

The tracks look MASSIVE ! I can imagine painting them is quite a lot of work. The whole vehicle looks lovely and it's looking great with all those rust effects !

Steve, thanks bud, too kind.
I may not go with a base due to time being a major factor here. I need to work on other projects I had started and also get four new ones going that need to be done within a year.
When I get some bench time I will start the weathering on this one.

Moving along on this build today, will have the lower hull pics up tonight and maybe get the dust and earth weathering start as well. Need to get this off the bench and get the other queens going again.
Thanks for following along and stay tuned as this will be wrapped up very soon.

I look forward to the weathering of this one Rob, I hope you won't cover the achieved rust effects under layers of mud or dust.

Just a quick update for you. Although I wanted to get much more done yesterday, I did manage to rust and chip the bottom of the hull and made a start on the dust and earth effects. Yes, some of the raw steel and rust will get covered but only on the lower sections. Not much to see, but moving along none the less. Hope to have this done soon so I can move onto other things....like the M51. As always, thanks for looking in.
