Another question several is asking is how the screenon the engine deck is. is the 'screen' over the braces ore under ? The second photo is correct. There were no metal stripes above meshes. only ribs under the meshes. But your meshes very simplified. Each mesh had 2 frames (upper and lower) and the net between them. Frames were joined by small flat rivets (11 per each long side + 3 on one of the short side). Whole constructions were fixed on the engine deck by 8 bolts (4 on each long side). Something like this: The rear mesh had the same construction:

Hi! I've made some steps with the turrets, mostly concentrated on the roofs. The small photoetched parts made me crazy, but they were last photortched parts in this build....

That's some nice detail work on the turrets Andrey! I can see why you would be glad to have this behind you...but worth the effort!

Now how did I miss this blog. Man those are awesome looking KV's. I have a few in the stash and was thinking of banging one out for fun and to go to town with weathering. I can't wait to see the painting of these. Very nice work on all three, love the extra detailing.

Andrey
That is some serious model building on a large scale, I have to limit myself to one kits at a time or else I have a disaster on my hands. Your work is very good and the work on the stand for the Degtyaryov on top of the turret is outstanding. The PE detail for the hatches looks good and I have done a couple of the tool boxes but they do not look as good as yours. I like the KV series and have completed a few, they are fun to detail.

...very different beasts eh KV-1 was in production less than 3 years and (without KV-1S and KV-2) had 2 hull’s modifications, 5 turret’s modifications, 3 gun’s modifications, 2 engine’s modifications, 8(!)modifications of driving wheels and a lot of minor changes (like screens, boxes, fenders and etc...). So, they were definitely different And the next small step with turrets:

Very nice work again on these Andrey! The KV series provides a lot of interesting variations and you're capturing these beautifully! The large bolted-on turret version has always held the most interest for me...something about that 'industrial' look it has I guess!

You are certainly setting the standard for KV building, one of my favorite vehicles to build and you are giving lots of good lessons on improvement.
