Thank you very much - it's because most of it wasn't made by AMG I have removed the sprue-attachment point since...only noticed it after posting the pic You're turning this pig's ear into a silk purse slowly but surely dierk! I hope you're right - but even if it all goes mammaries up, it's certainly good practice...and all other kits will feel like shake and bakes in comparison Great work there Dierk - love the rocker arms...they're not in the kit surely? Did yer make them? Astoundingly, they are in the kit - although the spacers weren't, and virtually impossible to clean up as the PE is REALLY thin. oh nice model! I have almost two pictures with wheels, I seen one in some german show and have wheels style ww1 planes. I read about this vehicle with wheels was used in summer, the rare is seen the white camo en summer!!! hehehe in comparision is more detail of the trumpeter version? regards. Glad you like it. I've seen a few pictures of wheeled ones myself - all in winter camo. As far as I can tell, they didn't see any action in summer, but were fitted with wheels during repairs and testing. In an ideal world you would kitbash the AMG and Trumpeter kits - but you would still have to do a lot of additional work. Where the AMG kit is better than Trumpeter is that the dimensions are correct, a fly-wheel is included, the heat-exchanger at the back is a bit better, the propeller is the right way around (but the leading edge is still on the wrong side)and you get a bag for the empty shells for the MG - other than that I'm really struggling to say anything about this kit that doesn't include a large number of four-letter words - I doubt very much that it is possible to build this kit OOB. Some parts that are mentioned in the instructions just aren't there, other stuff just isn't included at all, and some bits that should be there are missing. Crisp is not a word I would use to describe the moulding - DML it ain't. The instructions only give you a rough idea of how to build the kit - and on top of the vagueness also have mistakes in them. Unlike the Trumpeter kit, this one IS based on a scale drawing - but of a version that was so rare that I've only seen one photo of it...and that's the one used on the box-art. End of rant - for now... Cheers, dierk

Real interesting vehicle , not even heard of a wheeled one before! The kit looks 'challenging' but you're glittering her up nicely

Great job on the MG, it does really look the part now Zerozeke, I hope this time they will match the correct size and shape, given the other one was totally misshapen...

Great job on the MG, it does really look the part now Zerozeke, I hope this time they will match the correct size and shape, given the other one was totally misshapen... I dont know.. I have in my hands the Nkl 26 and in comparision is the same "hull" and same parts but with extra for new version. I'm afraid that probably means that the dimensions of the hull and consequently the engine on the NKL-16 are wrong too. The props are definitely still the wrong way around and I couldn't see a flywheel for the engine either - what a shame, I'd have liked to have added that one to my collection - but my stash has enough дрова (firewood) in it already, I don't see the need to add more. I hope I'm wrong... Should get a bit done on the AMG kit this weekend, so stay tuned. Cheers, Dierk

Due to RL getting in the way, I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped. However, I did get the push-rod tubes fitted - after reattaching to of the rockers that made a break for freedom: Not as good as I was visualizing - a case of ambition outstripping ability The first set of push-rod tubes I made were all between 0.5 and 1mm too short...measure twice and cut once I hear you shout. I've also made a start modifying the alternator drive by adding some thin styrene disks to the PE - just got to think of a way to widen the belt now. Currently thinking of using masking tape - unless somebody has a better idea? My initial idea of making the spark-plugs from stretched sprue and then somehow attaching wire for the HT leads didn't come to fruition, instead I dipped the ends of some lead wire into Mr. Surfacer 500 to simulate the plugs - might end up looking Ok. Hopefully, you won't have to wait till next weekend for the next update. Dierk

Before you get all hot under the collar and think you're going to see this finished soon: I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. I've run out of glitter to roll this turd in! It's been getting to point where I couldn't bear to look at it anymore, and if it's no fun there's no point to it. I'm pretty sure I will come back to it, but yesterday I got to the point where I rather cleaned up indy track links (which is what I did)than continue with what felt like self-flagellation. But here goes anyway: Finished the wheels. I made the cutouts for the valves by drilling a bit of a slot and then opening it up with the tool you see in the foreground: There seem to have several ways of mounting the headlight, so I decided to bend a piece of PE fret into roughly the right shape, and added a bit of lead wire: The headlight itself was modified by inserting a reflector and bulb from Elf, then I tried to glue the lens (also Elf) in place using Humbrol Clear - but the reflector was slightly proud of the shell, so the glue had the adhesive qualities of spit. So instead I fixed it in place using clear enamel lacquer: Just noticed that the lens isn't actually in place on that photo... To be continued at some unspecified time in the future - probably. Cheers, Dierk

Great work arounds, I like the subject but the problems with that kit makes one stand back and think a little more.

Dierk
For what its worth I noticed early on in the build you were making a smooth circular ring for the cockpit. I picked up a real easy way of doing that some time back when I needed some small hand wheels for a howitzer. A dowel or tubing that is the same size as the round rod you want to make can be drilled with a small hole to accept the styrene rod then wrap it around you home made mandrel and tape the tag end securely to the mandrel and then dip it in boiling water for 15 seconds then in a cup of cold water and you will get prefect rings equal to the number of wraps you made. I have a small box I keep the extras in because it seems you can always use a round ring. It also works for strip material.

Great work Dierk and I fully appreciate yer desire to take a break from this one my friend. IMHO it takes a far greater skill level to bring a pig like this up to speed and it is far more draining than a shake and bake! I really do hope we see this one again as it has been a great blog so far and is an interesting vehicle that many of us were totally unfamiliar with! TB - I use that same method - it does work a treat eh? Good for styrene springs too
Up until someone showed me that method I was defeated when I had to make round wheels with styrene, really helped me out. As I remember the guy who showed it to me was going to do a visual and written thing on the method but I never saw it so I assume it was lost in the bin of forgotten well intentions.

Top tip Teabone - I'll use it when I build the skied version of the AMG kit (I'm not THAT much of a masochist) but seriously, another great technique to add to my arsenal. Don't worry jackwagon (and everybody else) I'm sure this one'll be back - last night I thought of a better way to do the spark-plugs and HT leads. Getting some time away from that thing is helping me rekindle the interest in it. Zerozeke - I'm really glad I didn't pay THAT much for it - I got mine from here for a lot less. Great service from the shop BTW - as there was a considerable delay in shipping, Ivan (no, really) bunged in a PE fret of workshop tools. cheers, Dierk
