There's a definite 'tipping point' in the Dragon catalogs where the quality dramatically improved. It happened right around the 6300 and above numbering in the kits although every now and then they still produce some interesting results. The older kits with low 3000 or any of the 9000 numbers are usually reboxes of other manufacturer's molds with some slight changes/mods, so as Dicky mentions...there's Dragon and then there's Dragon when it comes to their full kit range!

Talk about tight quarters! Bet it was fun sitting inside one of these on a summer day...

Hi all! @ray - thanks for the pics. I already have them... and some more unfortunately. Without these it would be an easy build You can find lots of pics about the SA-9 and other Soviet steel here. I've seen this vehicle - the gunners place is definitely not a dance hall. === Evening all! I do not create a new post, just for this little step... The rocket containers are not correct but the only correction I could do was removing those little "screw head / rivet imitations" and drilled holes. 120 holes (12 pieces, 10 holes on each) Thats all for today. Thanks for following

After spending some days with making the rocket containers look acceptable (again putty, sanding, putty, sanding... adding some plastic sheets) I'm a bit tired of this kit Will post pics if something more spectacular will happen. If I put it back to the box, I'd never countinue, so it must be done now... but it will take a long time. I'm also trying to get rid of my Shilka (with resin interior and PE for outside), but it seems nobody needs it Anybody here wants a Shilka? I will not buy more dragon kits.

I am the same here... I seems not able to just stop or quit. Nothing beats feeling good when a build is completed. There are always some bad kits for every manufacturer. Majority of my Dragon kits came out great while one was not that good.
Looking forward to your updates.

Don't let the kit defeat you mokush! At the same time, it's good not to force things either so take your time and work away at it when you can...that way it doesn't become a shelf/box queen and you get the pleasure of beating the challenges too!

Thank You for the positive energy No model kit will defeat me... it's just a tactical withdrawal LOL, just fake a withdrawal and ust the trojan horse tactic. When it'll think you're fleeing and relaxes, jump on it and finish it

Good thinking... tactical withdrawal with a good bottle of beer or two then you will be back at it.

Hello Gentlemen! I the past some days there was some progress... small steps for me, big steps for the SA-9 I corrected (more or less) the "eyebrows" and the holders of the rocket-frame. Also updated(?) one rocket container. The rocket has glass nose for the IR sensor, I had to make this from a piece of clear spure, then polished and covered with Vallejo Still Water. The other 3 containers will be closed. Some more sanding will be necessary, but maybe I see now the light at the end of the tunel... hopefully it's not a headlight of a train.

Hi All! Some update... The cover of the headlights (the lights are shaded because not to disturb the gunner) is made of pretty thick plastic, so they had to be thinned at the front edges and some more metal must be added... pics: Afert a month of snow and rain the sun is shining today, so it's time to go out. Have a nice weekend!

Now there's some nice home-made scratch work on those light guards! Can't blame you for getting outside for some sun if it's been a month of cold/icy weather. You've earned it!

Hi All! Now it seems, the building is more or less finished... at least I do not want to put more work into it. On wednesday (hopefully) it will get the primer and I can start sanding and correcting, before the paint. Mods I've done so far: most of the weld lines are added exhaust pipes drilled handle bars changed to wire cable reel's cover and some other parts scrach made of alu turret interior and exterior details some parts were and will be added from other kits (like the aerial - not on the pictures) the towing cable is 0,3mm galvanized steel wire the turret door (window) was too big, had to cut 1mm from all sides etc... And the pics for You to judge Thank You for checking in!
