Having never built a Trumpeter kit before I decided to give this T-62 1972 a try. No blingage or scraterizing, unless I screw something up, for this one as I'd like to do it out of the box. I must say I'm beginning to see why Dicky really likes these kits. So far no issues, fit is good and minimal flash. Just getting started so not much to see here. Wheels, tires, drive sprocket and idler cleaned up and the suspension parts put on the lower hull. I'm going to try and get the tracks done today. Anyone have any idea as to how many links per side to use?  ACW! |

good start john. looks like decent detail out of the box. always like to hear about good fit and minimal issues.
unfortunately no help from me on how many links per side.

Very nice John!! Can't go wrong with this one! Trumpy is a solid kit...not to say there may be something minor that can pop up, but it's just that...minor! Sorry can't quiet remember the figure on the links....DIcky might be around soon to help out though!! I know Wouts fired up this kit not too long ago as well! Keep up the great work!!

Hi! AFAIK 86 links eack side. Do not forget to shorten the axle of the idler wheel, otherwise it will not line up with the roadwheels. Not my pic:  |

this is a great kit, ain't it? It was my first Trumpy kit and I like it (still a WIP). Gary (BBD) helped me out on the track count. I used 97 on each side. Odd that mokush mentions 86. Not saying that's wrong but I think I couldn't manage 86 links  Looking forward to next update Cheers |

wouterYes, you're right, type mismatch 86 = 96. Actually there were 2 kind of tracks on the T-62s (of course with different drive sprocket). Older one (same as on T-55, full metal) 96 links and newer one (rubber hinge) with 97 links. Anyway, it does not matter in this case, becasuse the number of links you use on a model is not the same that was used on the real vehicle. Clear all links and use as many you need (depends on how loose you make it). Another solution (at least at Trumpy) to count the links in the assembly guide.

Thanks Dicky! 96 links worked out just fine. Didn't have to shorten the idler but the thing sure fits loose. I'm liking it very much.
Thanks Luigi! I'm afraid there won't be a lot to see being just an out of the box but I'm more interested in the painting stage right now.

Since things are slowing a bit at work I've been able to make some progress. Tracks done assembled and I hope to have the rest of the hull done and get a good start on the turret later this week.   |

Just a question from a newbie to Tanks. How do you glue the track links to conform to the wheel pulleys? They seem to be somewhat flexible.

Thanks T! Not so much downtime as less weekend OT at work but the wife is now after me to get some things done around the house. No rest for the wicked! Thanks Leon! Turret is almost done. Pics tomorrow for sure. Bill- the tracks fought me on one side but the other was no problem. Go figure. Thanks for looking in. Hey Andy! Thanks buddy! Liking the Trumpy kit pretty well. I can't imagine who you would be talking about.  Thanks Pete! It's pretty much falling together. Thanks Dan! Almost ready for primer. Maybe this week. Thanks Luigi! The kit goes together very nice and theres some nice detail as well. Thanks Mac for looking in! Hey Boots! Good to be smelling the glue fumes again! Thanks for stopping by! Hiya Dicky! Thanks and the kit practically builds itself! Thanks for stopping by Bruce! The tracks are indy links and I glue one side of the run (96 links on this build) together. I put down some tape sticky side up and put the links together on that. After the run is complete I put liquid glue down the entire run and wait 45 minutes. Carefully pry the run off the tape and bend around the running gear. Let it completely dry still on the tank over night. If you leave the ends unglued it will make it easier to remove the run and wheels off the build until after painting. Heres a pic of some T-34 links I done like this:  |

Most construction is done and will be ready for primer tomorrow. I'm leaving the fenders off till probably last or shortly after the tracks are on. I don't like the wire provided for the tow cables so I'll make my own from ship rigging thread. Can't wait to start slinging paint!   |

Wow, it looks great What version are you going to build? Mod. 1972 was used by nearly all the foreign countries that URSS supplied. I've seen an Angola one whose camo is nice, but it serviced also with Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and so on... |
