have another winner for all the Ancient painters. Excuse me, I meant to say painters of Ancients. It is a 1/10 scale multimedia bust of a Mongol Warrior. Kit number SK19 consists of 6 well cast resin pieces and 5 metal pieces. The kit is packed in a strong card box with 3 views of the painted figure on the cover.
Inside the kit,
parts are secured in a Ziploc bag between a two of pieces of foam. The kit’s metal pieces are 4 long shafted arrows on a sprue and the back to the arrow quiver which has a lug that fits snugly into the back of the bust. The arrows are well cast, but the arrow points will need some clean-up when removed from the sprue. Depending on your preference for detail the feathers on the arrows could use some attention.
Let’s move onto the resin pieces.
The main pieces are the Mongol’s head, body, and stand. Due to the size and weight of the body and head together the stand will need to have some additional support or be replaced. Both the head and body are very well done and the head matched to the body seamlessly using the shirt collar as the join point to the shirt proper.
The other resin parts are the outside of the quiver, the inside arrow support, and a very small sword or knife handle. When assembling the quiver, the inside arrow support will need to be sanded down a little on the flat (back) side to allow a good fit between the front and back of the quiver. The knife handle is pretty small and can easily be lost. So be careful. Also carefully look at the box picture to make sure the handle is placed right side up.
This is a kit that I would definitely recommend to all skill levels and ideal for novice painters. The kit really lends itself to some creativity in your choice of colors. There was no uniform per se for the Mongols, so any of the vegetable dye colors will work for the coat and shirt. In addition you may want to try Scale 75’s NMM (Non-Metallic Metal) Paint set for the metal on the breast plate.
