Value gear Details generic/universal wooden crates sets
Value Gear has been on a steady roll of producing universal and specific on vehicle items such as tarps, tents, packs and as reviewed here, wooden crates. In another review we will also look at sets designed for Shermans.
I received to of the universal wooden crate sets from Steve of Value Gear and figured I would look at and review both sets in one review.
The sets
The products are of cast resin in a medium gray color, and they seem light weight for some reason, or maybe I am used to resin being heavy. The part count, or quantity in each set varies from set to set. The review items are in a set of 16 and the other has 18 pieces. There is a light rough texture and wood grain to the crates which with painting should stand out. All pieces are flash free and also free of pouring blocks. A simple light sanding on the bottom and your ready to go.
The sets come in multiples, larger crates doubled and up to eight of the smaller crates. Besides being different sizes the crates come in different styles with some having the wood slats on three sides, while others just on the lids.
Set WC-6 is the set I like the most. This set four 'open' crates with three (3) having what looks to be potato's inside, and the fourth tools and rags or clothe. A nice touch. This set also includes what appears to be two (2) closed tool boxes/chests.
WC-5
WC-6
Conclusion
Some may say it's easier to just scratch build items like these crates, but in my opinion, why! These sets save the modeler a lot of work and especially valuable bench time. As can be seen in the images above, you get quite a few different size and styles of crates just in these two sets alone, enough for a few models and dios. I look forward to using these on some projects I have on the bench.
Great thanks to Steve of Value Gear for sending these and other review items. MSC will be reviewing more value Gear products soon, as well as build type reviews showing the products painted and with a model.
