But those AK guys made me buy everything they had at their booth... just ask Rob and others. I think I am done with AK... going back to Vallejo paint when I run out of AK paint. It is not that hard... just add a drop or two of lighter or darker paint and you have your color modulation set using just two or three bottles instead of six. I don't know how common the name Vallejo is in Spain, but the fact that the president of AK is Mr. Fernando VALLEJO Calleja makes me believe it's all the same, hence it won't make any difference... Cheers, Tobi They are not related in any way. The Vallejo in AK has absolutely nothing to do with the one running Vallejo

yeah it's a shame. I got the impression that both sides are throwing with some mud to each other...it's a bit messy and hard for us outsiders to judge the situation. I will keep continue using the products as long as they are good. Sucks too btw that MIG closed down his AK forum without informing the members. I read about it on FB, otherwise I wouldn't have known of the issue. It would have been much gentler to add a statement on the forum prior to the shutdown Cheers He may not have had a choice given the nature of the break-up and sudden termination of the relationship with AK. Legal issues around cease-and-desist when relationships are terminated usually don't leave much room even when they are amicable and this one clearly wasn't. I suppose that would make Mig even less willing to accommodate anything that was no longer under his control, so light's out was the choice to keep any chance of there being a charge that he continued to represent AK or use the AK logos in any way (which could cause fraud issues and other problems) after the date of the AK announcement was posted. These types of things can be quite ugly depending, never pretty to see it happen. Yep, I agree. Given he built the forum and he has no legal right to use the AK name he had no other choice, IMHO.

as of this time, me and my partner still shipping AK products here in our country, we may not now what future holds for AK... we do acknowledged the Man Behind AK is already left same with is founding pillars... but if you put yourself in our perspective and your running a business, what would you choose, go on or stop? weathering is essential our modeling needs, not unless we go back to our old school ways... Mig and his crew created AK to make our life easier as a modeler... (correct me if I'm wrong) if Mig establish his own brand and company as in he can call his own, there's no question we will support Mig, Carlos, Iain, Rick and Eli. E.R AK - Philippines If I were in your shoes ER, I would continue to provide the products my customers would expect/want you to provide. If you don't, someone else will, so the end result doesn't benefit your business either way and you could very well anger loyal customers in the process. If the demand for the AK products remains post-Mig, then you should continue to offer them just like you would any other brand of products. Let the consumers vote with their dollars as to whether or not AK continues to survive. If Mig does indeed try again for a third time and the demand is there for that brand, roll with it when the time comes.

Heads-up gents, looks like prices on AK stuff are going to go up in the near future at least here in the US. Ron over at Red Frog Hobbies posted this up on Facebook earlier today:
"AK Interactive news. So as you probably already know Mig Jimenez has parted company with AK Interactive. This affects us all in a few ways. His distribution network is not the same as it was and also prices will not be the same. New prices will be going up as all e-tailers such as myself will have to buy through a different distribution network. We will be holding out current prices until older lower priced stock runs out, and then will be forced to raise prices on newer inventory. This is not something we want to do but must as we can't absorb the price increase being given to us. We are sorry to have to do this. If you want/need AK interactive products now is the time to make a purchase. We will continue to handle AK products along with Mig productions weather pigments,Vallejo Pigments and Bragden pigments, so you have many choices. Thanks to all of you for your business !! Regards Ron"

Hmm that would be a bad... seems like someone playing monopoly, if the price doesn't change here in our location we still continue distributing AK, if were also affected by sudden surge of increase then I have no choice...

This would undoubtedly be the normal course of events in regards to the cost going up. As Ron eludes to in his statement the distribution network being disrupted and all. There will be folks that leave because of the feeling about the individuals involved being wronged, even more for the increased difficulty in obtaining the product and still more due to price increases; however, the product is well made (or has been) and works exceptional to which will still draw the modeling fan to keep using it. Also,I am sure you will have the "closet AK" users as well out of this.
Personally I still have still have paints, effects and pigments on my bench and at the rate they are consumed I should for a while. I will continue to use them as they are still as good as they were before the "reorganization". I can tell there are still plenty of excellent effects on the market and I am sure more to come in the future so even long after I run out and if I choose not to buy any due to whatever reasons there will always be another way to skin the proverbial cat.
Just adding to the already explained part about the connection of Acrylicos Vallejo and AK Interactive....Vallejo paints is owned by Amadeo and Alex Vallejo...NOT Fernando of AK. From my understanding Early on and ONLY early on there would have been a collaboration only by supplying paint for the first run sets....this was ended some time ago.
My thoughts right now are still with Iain, as he is a great friend of ours, wishing him all the best as he goes through this transitional period of his career as well as with Mig, Eli and Carlos. My hope for success of the many that were also affected by this shake-up, as with Ron (RedFrog) and ER and the many more that make their living from this hobby. Time will only tell what will happen in the future.

This just sucks. Ian's an awesome guy and I hope all of them figure things out right away. Seems like Mig just got screwed over. I love my AK products, but I'm not sure if I should stock up in case prices go up or production should stop, or switch to another product in support of Mig and Ian and the rest of them.
Unlike a lot of people here, my AK collection is low, and this makes me sad.
But as was said before, and as GW Bush said, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice................I won't get fooled again." Hoping this is all solved soon.

I own almost the whole product palette and it's a good thing that the acrylics are now available separately, especially from the modulation sets, so one can restock only what is needed. Time will tell if prices raise in Germany, also. With MIG Productions products they did not up to this day. My stocks of AK stuff will also last pretty long, highest consumption was when I accidentally knocked over a bottle of mud once! The modeller should be always aware, besides the paints these weathering products offer nothing which even a beginner couldn't mix by himself! We did that in the past, mixing oils or enamels with thinner for filters and washings, scraping pigments from pastels and so on, then we got lazy (including me). Cheers, Tobi

you almost gave me a nosebleed, T lol very well said... Iain is great guy... same as the others my stock of AK is also low (I prefer on washes/ filter and Pigments) even I ordered for my own I had to sell it to the buyer as long I haven't open it... since on my opinion I could still order the one I need for future use, but this is unexpected... just my 2 cents.

Problem at this point is that I've got too much invested in product to just stop using it...and it IS still Mig-developed (it was the bomb when he was still there!), so why would I stop?
That being said, if 2-3 years down the road Mig, Iain, Rick and crew come out with another line of verrrrry similar products I can't say I'd be averse to switching.

Looks like AK Interactive will be experiencing some supply issues which no doubt will impact their ability to continue production in the near term...just saw this up on FB: www.facebook.com/notes/darius-t-cerver/important-note-for-all-ak-interactive-paints-users/1381449585434751 "I'm Darius T. Cerver, owner of the paint factory that has manufactured the paint products for the company AK Interactive for distribution under its label. With this statement, I want to inform all modelers that from this day forward, we stop completely any collaboration with AK Interactive and our paints will no longer be distributed by this company. The various recent events and statements made public by the company worldwide, have forced me to make this announcement using the same media platform. It is therefore my intention to report that our entire paint range, including enamel washes oils, pigments, and acrylics, will immediately no longer be distributed by AK Interactive. Soon we will announce the company with whom we will work in the future. It is our hope and expectation to have your support in this new era. Thank you very much for your time and attention and we wish the best to AK. Be sure that I will update you shortly."

When a product or range of products is so intensively tied to the image/persona/brand of a single individual, when you try to split those off it can become intense. It will be interesting to see what label these emerge under, whether a new one or an existing one remains to be seen! As a fall back, you can always mix your own stuff in the interim.
