Celticwerks Casting Source specializes in resin casting of conversion parts, detail parts and scenic items for scale armor modeling. Celticwerks is owned by Steve Reid. It came into being as a result of the collaboration of modelers on the South Shore Massachusetts with friends from The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Recently I had the chance to have a look at one of the newer creations made and sold through Celticwerks; The CWS3504 Wrecked Pzkpfw. 38t wedgie. The Wedgie vignette came onto the scene a couple years back and the Pzkpfw.38t adds one more option to the modeler for these fun, exciting pieces.
This 38t Wedgie is sold as a kit containing 11 resin cast parts and one aluminum gun tube. Each part is cast from a high quality epoxy resin. In giving all the parts the good once-over, I found no flash and no air bubbles in the resin. The main part of this kit, the combined base and knocked-out 38t, is cast in one piece creating a solid base for this little vignette. The base measures 3.75" X 3.875" (9.5 cm X 9.8 cm).
This piece would work excellent as a base for figure modelling, standalone static display or simply a platform to practice your painting and weathering. There is plenty of room within the display for one to four figures without overcrowding. As a standalone display a multitude of scenic accessories can be added to enhance the scene or even left as is. The base has a amazing amount of detail cast into it.
The Pz.Kpfw 38t base is extremely easy to work with. Just take the piece out of the box and you are ready to go! As with any resin castings, a warm soapy bath is recommended prior to adding a primer coat of paint. Once primed, it is all about relaxing and enjoying yourself while you paint the piece.
What I have shown is just adding paint to this model....that's it! You can see how quickly this piece comes alive.
This is why this piece is such a great model for practicing, quick to assemble and easy to paint allowing a really nice base to work techniques in all forms of weathering. Since the tank is knocked out in the scene allows the choice of burnt effect, rusting, neglect, fresh mud, rain...whatever you can think up. Once done the piece could easily be stripped back to the original cast and start again!
If you are interested in this casting, any of the other fine renderings from Celticwerks or if you have an idea or part that needs casting please visit the Ceticwerks Website:
