Where to start with this one..."back in the day" I was an incredible Star Wars junkie. Had all of the toys, watched the movies hundreds of times, met a ton of the actors, etc. etc. Fast forward to my modeling days, and I got into armor (which I had never built before) and aircraft (which I had). The available SW kits were pretty few and far between, and what was there was a lot of snap-tite junk, so I didn't really get into it beyond a couple of random things. Ended up meeting a fella through a kit trade (see? there are side benefits to having a large stash!) that is a SW garage kit manufacturer...and knows ALL of the other guys that do the same thing around the world. This had the unintended consequence of opening me up to a large number of limited-run kits that I had no idea even existed. Dupes = sucked in bigtime. So this is the first of many upcoming Star Wars builds for me. Keep your eyes peeled! This is an Utar Ships kit of a Marauder Corvette (missile variant). Reference here: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Marauder-class_corvette In 1/2256, it comes to about 3.5" in length (will be sure to throw a ruler in there for subsequent pics).

See, small is good I have nothing against small! Shoot, even most of the 1/72 SW stuff isn't all that big. If only I could get everything in the same scale...

Hahaha...managed to avoid that this year (thank god). I tried to come up with some more cheese-related names for SW characters, but no luck. Hard to match up "Vader" and "Chewbacca" with cheese. Heh.

Bit of an update tonight - first with the off-white base color sprayed: And then the first color application via airbrush with some dark gray. That pic came out a bit fuzzy...will be better for the next update. Detail painting to come!

Good start Jedi Padawan Dupes! To earn the Jedi Master, you have to win MoM on this... may the force be with you. LOL Win MoM with a 3" long 7-piece resin SW kit?? Odds not good! Now the 3 FOOT long fully lit and detailed resin Star Destroyer in the same scale...that's a different story.

Looks good man, I must pick up an Outrider and the other YT In which scale, John - 2256? 350? 144? 72? And size does matter when you're going from 3 inches to 3 feet!

Depends what scale(s) you're interested in, and whether you're looking for fighters or capital ships.

Small of course See that's one of the problems, I have no reference to go by as far as how big these things are. I mean an X wing is not as big as a Deathstar obviously.

I think your best bet is to start with a couple of the Fine Molds kits in 1/72. They aren't huge (TIE fighters are about 4" on the wings), aren't expensive (unlike all of the resin stuff), and you can match scales with a lot of stuff that way. If you decide to branch out from there, I can get you all kinds of other ideas.
Re: size - if you go to the "standard" capital ship scale of 1/2256, a lot of stuff is pretty darn mini. Fighters are like half an inch long, shuttles and freighters about an inch. Corvettes in the 2-3 inch range, then frigates are 4-8ish inches. Then you start kicking in to the big cruisers and destroyers which are 12" plus, then all the way up to 3' range for the Imperial-class Star Destroyers. There IS 1/4222 scale which is starting to catch on (if you like REALLY frickin' small), but not as much selection.

O.K. that gives me a better idea as far as size goes. I've been surfing a little and see that Spru Brothers have a pretty good selection of Fine Molds Star Wars stuff. I'm looking at the 1/72nd X-Wing kit number XWS01. How big would that be?

I'll go downstairs in a bit to check (about 5-6" long if I remember).

Sweet build so far Dupes. I can't wait to see what you end up with in the paint and weathering department. I'll be watching closely.
Cheers,
