Meng T-90, more paint and tracks

Hi all

I thought it was time I was a little more active around these parts, and figured I would start with a recent build. A little out of my comfort zone this one, so any pointers, missing details etc please feel free to shout out........

This is my first Meng models kit and I have to say its a beauty..

















And a supporting cast

The one thing that struck me quickly was the breakdown of parts........ lots and lots but the instructions make it very easy









The torsion bars are a tricky so and so to get right, the jury is still out to see if I have or not yet





A completish engine block....... nice









And chucked some paint at it......

Keeping up the pace , I wish I worked this fast in real time

















The only bit of AM for this kit is the tow cable, Meng supply a length of string













And that apart from wheels and tracks is the lower hull completed......... tracks may need some patience and a little valium... approx 600 pieces but they will be attacked when some green has been thrown!

The turret is super detailed, and appears to be the heart and soul of these beasts, apologies if modern soviet fans know this already, did I mention new to me big learning curve!

It all begins with the multi part gun barrel and then builds in complexity from there on in, the big banga boom blocks need careful checking as the isometric drawings are busy to say the least.













A spot of red for the ol frogs eyes



The commanders turret and mg mount are fairly complex and many deep breathing exercises are required



So there we are minus wheels and tracks but otherwise complete, really enjoyable so far may have to try some more of their kits











And the supporting cast....... really like these, always liked the look of Tank figures but never had a project for them....







So I have been looking at paint for modern Russian stuff can anyone help with this? Is modern Russian green the same as WW2 4BO?

The figures look excellent... great details! Thank you for not helping me at all! I was torn between T-80 and T-90 to buy and build... leaned toward ti T-80. Now I am so confused... LOL You will probably tell me to build BOTH!

Well Duh!! both it is And I am totally on board, modern soviet stuff has always interested me but also totally confused me due to the variety of marques etc, but these new kits seem to be smoothing that out, I like the Forrest Gump approach, simple is, as simple does.

Seriously though its a great kit, I have not gotten bored once yet!!

Yeah, I was only into WWII armors but somebody here twisted my arm to build a modern tank. That Challenger II you saw this morning is my first and now I am afraid I am hooked. Have been looking around to build a Russian modern tank... LOL

Likewise, WW2 all the way, then I became interested in modern US kit, now my tastes are wide and varied.

Dupes, I am in no way an expert on these, this one has been getting top reviews and is supported by a Russian expert on the T90, its really nicely presented too with a great info/ instruction book, clear directions. All rounder I would say
With that said Trumpies version is well reviewed too. But I have not seen it to compare.

Dicky, the 3 tone scheme based in the Caucasus is the one I fancy, an out on manoeuvres setting.
Just need to get the colours cracked, so if you have any suggestions? Lifecolour is my preference.

Colours are all subjective I find anyhow, weather and environment, maintenance etc, if it's close or looks right..... That'l do Gromit!

Would never have considered Polish colours..... Thanks for that will take a look see.
Still not sure about AK/Ammo paint, have quite a few of the original AK washes and really like them......

It certainly is Mence, I would go to say the turret has as many parts as the hull, certainly where all the action is!
