This is an all-resin kit from Scale Solutions in Australia (a small garage kit manufacturer) of a TIE fighter variant from the soon-to-be defunct Extended Universe. Back in the day, George Lucas decided that he was never going to do anything with the post-Return of the Jedi era, so he opened it up to all of the other writers who wanted to use it, hence the piles of novels that occur in that time frame. Since the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm, they've since gone back on that and said that everything that's been produced since about 1985 or so is now "to be ignored". Nothing like trashing almost 30 years of good material. I have LOTS of kits that fall into this now-"alternate" universe. 1/72 scale to go along with the Fine Molds TIE kits...as well as all of the other TIE variants that are available out there. Unfortunately, my sample had a pretty top/bottom mismatch in the hull casting - lots of tough cleanup. Ended up using a bit of creative greeblification on the parts that I couldn't fix. After a rattlecan base coat: Attempted to mask off the solar panels for airbrushing - after an hour plus of that (and no end in sight) I decided to hand paint all of them instead. Still took a couple more hours on top off the masking, but I think overall a bit quicker. Few touchups to do there, but otherwise I can press on with detail painting.

Oh yeah, so forgot to mention the fact that the "D" in TIE/D is "droid". These were ships that were designed without pilots - hence the lack of the standard TIE window. You'll be able to see this better once I get the front all painted up.

This is going to be another cool Star Wars addition to your shelves. Being big SW fan, I swear I never have seen this before...
Can't wait to see three more movies if Disney is going to do it!

Oh, they're doing it! Let's hope they're good. I'll throw up a pic of my SW collection soon - it's gotten fairly substantial. Traded a bunch of stuff away for some VERY cool kits. Todd - not done quite yet! A) the golf tournament has gone to extra holes and B) there are five other builds going on my bench with it. Heh.

G'day Dupes. When are you going to re post those finished pics? I am keen to see how it turned out.
I used to live not far from Wayne at Scale Solutions, so I visited his shop a couple of times. Nice bloke and he does some great work. FYI I am pretty sure he cut his teeth on industrial moulding using sand casting techniques which is pretty wild.
Cheers,
Brett T

It sure is! His other variants are pretty nifty to go along side it as well - especially the TIE Predator.
Brett - let me see about digging those up...I know I still have them. Weird.
