A few weeks ago, I posted some pics of my sons first tank build - the old Monogram M-4 HedgeHog: www.modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/8076/sons-first-tank?page=1&scrollTo=228078He was really excited about it and talked about how he wanted to take it to ArmorCon at the end of September, because he knows that is one of Daddy's favorite shows. Well, a couple of days ago he announced that he thinks he really needs to put his tank in a diorama. "Uhhh, excuse me..?", "You heard me, Dad. I need it to bash through a hedgerow!" So we grabbed some pink Styrofoam insulation, cut it to shape. Then I went and dug out an OLD box of PermaScene (I think I've had it for 20+ years), and I let him go nuts: After he got all that down, he grabbed a bunch of rocks from the yard and added those. We've let it dry the last two days (kind of humid here) and it is ready for some paint and some scenery. So, my son has been bitten by the bug. It is a double edged sword - helping him definitely cuts into my build time. But man, it is so fun to see him doing this and the excitement he gets from it. Everyone who has come to the house for the last two days has gotten a full tour of his base with a detailed explanation of his vision for it. We'll see what next week brings. Hope to have a few more pics to share of Zach's dio.

Yeah, this is good. We are pretty busy today, but about every 15 minutes I get a, "Hey Dad, can I paint my diorama?"...

So you're saying you were in Maine with no phone call or nothin'. I see how you are. I considered calling, but I was travelling solo with the two kids and we had the benefit run already set up for Sunday, so there was no real wiggle room in the schedule. If I ended up calling, I knew you'd talk me in to doing something I shouldn't......

Okay, we all now know the kid can build. Now we know he can put together a dio base. I think he needs his own account here! bbrowniii jr. maybe? What you say Dad? Oh, and VERY nice work here! Jeff

It's great seeing someone his age actually interested in the hobby. We need more to keep the hobby viable after we are gone. On top of that he seems to have been watching you because his diorama looks like it is going to be quite professional. Tell him I said "model on."

I have been busy with work and sick and yada yada yada... so my bench and forum time has been limited. Zach, however, has continued to plug away at his dio: Adding glue for static grass: The kid loves his static grass... Then it is time to build his hedgerow... I can't tell you guy how fun it has been to watch him do this. I show him how to do a step, and he runs with it. He is so flippin' excited for the show this weekend!! Hope to see a bunch of you there!

So what's he got lined up from your stash next? One of the DML SdKfz 251's. I think he is gunning for the engineering vehicle (can't recall the 3-in-1 kit that one is in). He's pretty determined to wear me down on that. Hope to find something to keep him in check while we are at the show!
