So, I’ve been playing with this little Vignette over the years. The Italeri Gate section started off as a practice piece to try some paint colors and weathering. It then started to involve into a little more when I ran across the neat little wood base. I then found a scrap section of cobblestone to add to the base. I could never make up my mind as to what kind of figures to use on this little project. I settled on Verlinden Productions Wounded & Medic US WWII #2803 as I feel it’s the perfect size to fill the space in front of the gate wall perfectly. My plan is to refine the weathering on the gate wall with some current techniques I have learned in recent years. This is the gate wall with base and cobblestone section. The Verlinden Productions #2803 Wounded GI and Medic. The resin pieces all laid out. There is plenty of detail for painting! And finally, the figures laid out on the base to get a feel of how they will fit.

I'm watching. I've got a nostalgic love of Verlinden stuff after thumbing through the books as a kid. Can't wait to see this one come together.

A nice figure set. Just a suggestion for the finished scene, but consider placing the wounded man's cut-up shirt someplace near his body. That might seem a strange thing to mention; but so many vignettes miss little details like that. Just use a bit of tissue paper or epoxy putty folded into a basic "once was a shirt" shape. Little things like that just add so much to the whole scene feeling more full, less simplistic. I've always really liked this photo.

This stuff brings back memories from the past, my first endeavors into modeling with Verlinden Figures and, hell, those Italeri stuff (I might to remember, these base pieces are from Verlindens factory, means, he sculpted the masters for Italeri) I haven´t seen in a long time. And the Vignette looks way cool, great arangement and some places to fill with some details maybe, debris or plants. Count me in to watch and comment your progress!

Hey John
Neat little scene there, looks like we are both in figure painting mode!
Looking forward to more progress, hey Andy, beer me a beer.

Tom, Glad to have you along!! Andy, better bring a couple of cases The base was given some ground cover using epoxy putty with a little sand sprinkled over it for texture. Then the figures and gate wall section were pressed into the groundwork. The wall and medic will be removed for painting, but the wounded GI is a permanent fixture now.

This is coming along nicely, I always find the blood on casualties the hardest thing to depict so I will follow with interest John. Good luck with this one. Dennis

You fixed the lying figure already? Wouldn´t it be easier for painting to add it after the paint job is done? I am very curious how you will go on!!

Thanks for looking fellas!
Frank, The laying figure is fixed in place, but the wall section is not yet. so the figure will be very easy to reach.
Thanks, John

A good idea, I think, always good to have the figure stuck to something while painting it.
And I hope to see some painting soon too!

Yeah, and it makes sense: The lying presses the body and all those clothes down to earth and this "heavy weight" is shown this way really good!

The base and figures were given a coat of automotive primer from a rattle can. I now have a clear path to start adding color.
