Me too! I know that there were some armoured observation vehicles built on tge 231/2 chassis. But I hav never heard of any on the 234. Bring it on as I need more excuses to build 8 rads :-)
So the 8 Rad variants are: 234/1 234/2 234/3 234/4
Odd balls: 234/3 with schwablelaffete 234/1 with Luchs Turret
Prototype 4 Rads: 234/1 234/2
Nowe just need some more information on any other support types.

I don't understand why. but what I wrote is not what we see in my reply!! should be called as Sd.Kfz 234 4rad Spahwagen P Ausf. 1-2 gary Damn Gary! You are the new 234 man! Reading your posts makes me think you should write a book! I'll definitely pick your brain when mine bit the bench!! I honestly don't know all that much about them, but snag every piece of data I can find. What got me interested in them was my association with the Stryker project. Both are multi wheel and multi steering combat vehicles. Kind of love following the evolution, and all it's variants. My so called holy grail of kits is the 234/3 variant. Seems hard to find, and when I do find one I'm poor as a church mouse! It took me several years to find good photos of the gun mount and other bits and pieces (ammo storage?) I now think I've finally got the tire tread pattern figured out, and I thank the after market folks for confusing this old man. The nice thing about modeling boards is that we all can sort of combine our data. I never knew there was a solid topped turret for the 20mm cannon equipped 234! I've got to do a serious look into that one as I can find zero data. The other one with the odd looking 20mm is also elusive, and neither one shows up in my data so far. But also don't trust a lot of the data presented. The solid topped turret almost looks like something they had laying around. Like an early PzKw. III or maybe even a modified PzKw.II, or it could also be one from the older eight wheeled armored cars. gary

NINE versions? Very interested to see pics if the exist! I've yet to ever see a picture of the oddball 20mm version I spoke of, and also the solid topped turret. The one with the box is even odder, but have seen one photo. Think it was somekind of an arty support or command vehicle. There is also a difference is the way the storage boxes are setup. Some of the eastern front 234's had an added box ontop the left fender. Looking at it, it looks factory built. Would love to find an over head shot of that box. Anyway as I said earlier; lets keep the information flow as you've got my attention! Back to the Luchs with the 50mm main gun a second. I found some line drawings, and it's even more different than I spoke of. It's wider for sure, and the angles look nothing like the 234 turret. Once again it looks more like a baby small turret Panther turret. gary

The cheapest I gave managed to get one of the Dragon 234s was about 25 bucks 0z plus shipping. Which still beat the $50-60 retail down here.

For a while here (several years ago) they were getting blown out all over the place...I got a bunch in the $15-$20 range. Sold off the extras thinking I had every variant covered!

went up to Andy's back yard today, to check out a new set of irons. Alas Golfsmith was closed when I got there! So I went over to Hobby Town, and they have a sale going on where you buy one kit and get a second one for half price. Grabbed a Tasca M4a3 and a Dragon 234/3. Yet after you guys educated me, I see two more in the future.
Assuming I get the Leopard turret clone built, I will have an extra Luchs turret from a third Tasca Luchs I forgot I had. Love it when a plan falls together! Wait till you see the next fall together project I put together in the back of my head. gary

Gary are the Luchs and Leopard hulls the same? much different. There's a build up on here (what if forum) titled "MJ Leopard". There is also one from Hobby Boss, but is said to have many errors. Supposedly there were seven built and maybe three actually issued. But maybe one actually saw action. Others claim it was never built, so who knows for sure. There are some folks that think the Leopard platform was going to become the PzKw.IIm hull, but I don't think so. Too much different from the Luchs. gary

Okay. Well that just leaves me the option of using the extra Puma turret on the extra Luchs hull snd making it a fantasy tank. Unless there are better uses for these extra (and rather expensive) parts?
Oh and whuch luchs kut would make the best donor for a turret?

Oh and whuch luchs kut would make the best donor for a turret? the best Luchs kits is the one from Tasca, but also hard to come by these days. The cheapest is the ICM, and nowhere near as accurate as the Tasca. The Tasca kit is a true gem. gary

Ive heard gpod things about the Tasca Luchs. Comments like "best injection plastic ki of all time." Might be worth splurging on it just to experience the awesomeness.

Those Tasca Luchs kits are going for a MINT on ebay. Yikes! Tasca did a reissue of the Luchs earlier in the year. Plus they still show it in production. Tasca did a Luchs "early" and a Luchs "late." I think the reissue is the early version (very little difference anyway). I'd let you have my third one, but it's all you guys fault!!! I now have the pieces of the puzzle waiting for me to get off my butt! gary

Nice collection of 8 wheelers Marc. I like the color and weathering of the tires on this one. The camo and weathering is also very good. Remember what I told you, think out of your box and have fun.

I'm back. Am I the only one that noticed the 50mm gun turret with a 20mm cannon mounted on it? It was on the 4 RAD. It also had that extra storage box on the left rear I spoke of. I've seen a couple photos with that box mounted on the 8 RAD as well. gary

Pretty sure thst box is standard on the Puma. At least it shows up in reference pics a lot. Brett The boxes I saw were on the L24 and 50mm Pumas. I kind of gather that it started out as a field mod, that was later adopted. The box is a two compartment affair. Looking at the turret with what I called out as a 20mm cannon in the 50mm turret, it might well be a 37mm. For sure not the 30mm Jaboshrek, but would make a great what if! The first 234 I ever saw was the 234/1 that Manny built on that other board. Never heard of one! Looked kinda evil, and had that rattle snake look. gary
