I'll be starting this kit sometime during the next couple of days.
This is a new direction for me. I haven't built any armor since I was 13 --- 61 years ago. Just decided I wanted to do something different. I'd ask that you guys keep an eye on what I'm doing and try to keep me on the right path. Just be gentle. Remember, you are dealing with an old man who has a bad heart. ,
Seriously I will appreciate any comments or criticism.

I believe this is nothing more than a rebox of the very old Monogram classic. If it is, what a fun build bringing back memories of my early days of the hobby. You'll have some fun with this one, John!

I'm in too. This was the first armor kit I ever built (about 40 years ago).

Seeing as I haven't built a piece of armor since before most of you were born I hope my effort is not a disappointment. Going to get started over the weekend.

Got started on the tank this afternoon. I noticed that the Revell copyright on the belly of the tank is 1970. I guess that answers the question of how old the kit is. Surprisingly all the parts are crisp and relatively flash free. Certainly a great deal sharper than an automobile of the same era would be.

Looking forward to seeing you tackle this one John! Should be a relatively quick/easy build. As you've discovered it's a 'nostalgia' rebox of the 1970 kit in 1/32. Revell has been doing that with quite a few kits lately as a neat way IMHO to allow people to relive their childhood memories without spending a small fortune or waiting forever to try to get one via Ebay.

This will be interesting. I got my start in armor building with these kits. The first one I did was the Sherman Calliope "Screamin' Mimi." They are very old kits and are not high in the parts count, but they still build into very nice kits. Shepard Paine was able to do miracles with these old kits. I built the Screamin' Mimi again last year when my son bought it for me. Very fun, not to difficult, and for me, the flood of memories was the best. Can't wait to see progress on this one.

I've made some progress on the Panzer IV in the last couple of days. To tell the truth, I've enjoyed this project more than I expected to. I actually started it to make a friend happy. He had been after me for the past year or so to give military modeling a chance. Anyway, I am enjoying this and looking forward to getting started on the painting and weathering this coming week.
Because it has been so many years since I have built any armor I intend to stick pretty much to the instruction sheet. I've decided to finish the Panzer in the color scheme that would have been used by the SS in Normandy in 1944. The base the model is sitting on will be finished as a cobblestone street (at last something I know about and am comfortable with).
Well, time to see if I can make my fantasy work. As always, I'm anxious for encouragement, criticism and friendly ridicule.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. As far as being fast-----that is just one of the benefits of being retired. Got lots of time to model.

Wow. Great work so far. After seeing these pics, I have decided to get this kit. I enjoyed it when I was younger, and since I can get it for about $14.00. or so at the local Hobby Lobby, I am going to go for it. I built the re-release of the Screaming Mimi and was not disappointed. These kits (in my opinion) have actually held up quite well. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see more progress.
