Guys, I have performed my OCD ritual cleaning my bench real good... now its ready for next build! My next victim... Are we seeing a crooked rifle here? He kinda reminds me of young Clint Eastwood... As of now... Thanks for looking!

I do see Eastwood, I do see a floppy rifle, and holy escritori that's a beautiful workspace. Mine is still the top of a file cabinet with a box of every tool and paint I've got thrown in. I can only dream of someday getting to work in such an environment! Have fun with the soldier, I'll be watching

LOL! Always happy to have you aboard my friends! It pays to have a basement... plenty of room for your stash if you need my help storing yours. About the crooked rifle, I am going to try the hot water method to make it straight... have you guys done that before on a resin part? Will it work? I am not sure...

Your rifle is definitely a little bent, my friend. I have shaped resin with hot water...it was a much smaller part but it worked. The Value Gear instructions are pretty adamant that it works too...and those are much larger, bulkier pieces. I think you should be safe. Looking forward to your lessons in figure painting That's an impressively crisp and detailed molding. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

AWESOME! I will give it a shot with the hot water today. No kidding I love those busts from Young Miniatures. Jeez, it sounds corny... I love young busts? Can't wait to have it painted... hoping to have it primed tonight if I can fix the gun.

Nice figure Andy.
Hey, if the water does not work, try a hairdryer set on a lower setting. I had some warped pieces in my resin Civil War cannon I did a few years ago. Was able to sort most of it with hot water and the hairdryer.
Good luck, fine sir!

"young busts" Careful there my friend...you probably just triggered an NSA remote scan of your hard drive I dabbled with a couple of large figures/busts years ago and the quality was no where near what I'm seeing from the ones you guys are doing here.

Boyd- AWESOME! Definitely will try the hairdryer method if hot water doesn't work. I did that on styrene helicopter blade... oops!!! Big mistake... gonna be careful but resin is more tolerable than styrene I think. Always happy to have you aboard! JImmy- Dang it! NSA guys were just here and they couldn't find anything... WHEW! Yeah it takes a lot of practice to do figures. Quick look at my first attempt on figures 5-6 years ago... 1/32 Airfix Jeez, it makes me puke every time I see at my old work. LOL It becomes better along with experience and help from many great modelers. My first bust attempt... its not as good as my previous bust of the Polish Winged Hussar. With right paint and paint brushes even airbrush you would be surprised what you can do now.

Welcome to the busty business Andy, great to see you start fella ! The bust looks awesome but you face outlining the Garand I'm afraid. I've seen this one coming by on shows and it's a real beauty. I look forward to the paint stages.
Have fun brother !

Guy- Hey my guy! So sorry for being late... I thought I'd finish my Seehund by Feb 15th. HA!! Things changed the moment I saw the dock kit at the hobby shop. LOL Now I am on board and I will do my best to make it as good as yours!
Terry- Thanks for the tip... boiling water? Was thinking hot water would do the trick. Nuke it for like 3-4 minutes in the microwave.

This looks like it's going to be a peach I'll make sure I drop in regularly. Are you using oils?

Wes- Thank you buddy... thanks for stopping by!
Robbo- Glad you liked it too! I had to get that bust when I first saw it. We recently celebrated 70th anniversary of Battle of Bulge so thought timing is good. Believe it or not I rarely use oil paint only oil washes made of heavily thinned oil paint on my busts and figures. Its pretty much acrylic now using either Vallejo or Life paint.

Nice to see you getting the bench clear and getting the bust out of the box! As for the resin in the hot water...YES, it works. Take a coffee cup and pop it in the Microwave for 2 minutes and toss the rifle in. If you leave it in there for a minute it should be soft enough to manipulate and straighten. If you can hold it in the correct position (if it won't stay) until it cools it should stay straight! Sometime, it straightens on its own. Welcome aboard Sgt.Rock!! Looking forward to you joining in! If you want, head on over to the Introduction section modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/board/23/introduce and give a shout out to the rest of the forum and say hi! You will find we are a friendly bunch!!

Thanks Jimmy! It is my goal to do a bust of US GI from WWI to present... that's about 8-10 busts including 3 or 4 for WWII. LOL Believe it or not nobody makes 1/10 bust of US GI of First World War at this moment.

The hot water method worked just great! I also used it to bend the rifle strap and it was perfect! Of course while working on the rifle, it snapped... it always happen! Inserted a metal pin to secure the gun better or it will snap off if I don't... Now the rifle is straight... no more arc shooting! LOL I went ahead and inserted a metal pin for the bayonet for better hold... Washed and primed with Vallejo black... I see I need to work on the collar a bit more... Very nice texture on the helmet... Created a wooden base so it can hold the bust better. I needed one for all of future bust builds... I am going to allow it dry for at least 24-48 hours before I can spray paint on it. Thanks for looking!

Burning the midnight oil again I see I like a man with a plan and that's a great plan indeed. I can't believe there's no WW1 bust out there. Especially as popular as the era is becoming in the modeling world. I guess you'll just have to work on the others until someone does one.

I should have known you'd throw up an update while I was typing. The primer is really showing off the quality of the molding even more. Great looking stuff. And the rifle looks much better . I'm most impressed by the cleanliness of your workspace. I try yo have mine similarly clean at the end of the day but it's never that clutter free while working.

LOL! I am a night owl for sure! Plenty of busts to keep me busy until somebody makes one. WWII US Marine, WWII US paratrooper, US Tanker, Korea War GI, Vietnam Era GI, Iraq GI and Afghanistan GI. I don't think anybody makes one between Vietnam and Iraq Wars...
I agree about WWI becoming popular lately. Plenty of British and German busts but nothing for our doughboys. Crazy, huh?
