I was really hoping to see those seats all painted up by the time I go to the end. Guess I'll just have to come back again.

Depends how far I can get with busying up the pit... I'd been hoping to wait until I have all the ordnance and do the cockpit and droppy things at the same time, but I'm still waiting on my Mk.83s (and need to finish the assembly of the Rockeyes) so the cockpit may jump ahead.

Back from NY, back to the bench. Some more good progress on the Intruder. Got the inner wing halves glued together - they slot into the fuselage rather nicely, but some cleanup's definitely needed to make that the case. Trumpeter has what seems like a great kit on their hands here, but there's microflash in the form of tiny flash seams on EVERY FRIGGIN' PART. My #10 blade is getting a lot of use. Also got the outer pylon/inner wingfolds together. They plug right into the end of the wings - masking is going to be annoying between the white and gray, but the part is nice and beefy. I've got the Eduard exterior set for the -6A - using bits of it here and there, including dressing up the bottom of the outer pylon. This will in all likelihood be invisible, but maybe not. Certainly looks better than a big expanse of plastic. Got the True Details seats removed from their pour stubs last night. This was, IMO, the biggest downside with these seats - most other seats I deal with have the stub somewhat inset making it really easy to cut away. Not so with these seats. I ended up havin got cut within 1-2mm, and then shave the rest of the stub away with a razor. Ultimately, they fit nicely and definitely capture the pilot's seat slightly above and forward of the bombardier's seat. The thing, in a word, massive. I should stock up on gray paint.

She is one big bird! Can't wait to see how you finish the cockpit. I was able to find VMA(aw)-242 decals, it was my last squadron when we transition from the Intruder to the F-18D Hornet.

That micro-flash seems to be a common thing with Trumpeter/Hobby Boss kits. I've run into the same problem with the last two Hobby Boss kits that I built and also on the Trumpeter 109F-4 build. It can certainly get annoying especially on really tiny detail parts that have to fit perfectly for everything to go together properly.

I've had the same experience with the Zoukei Mura He 219...frustrating to say the least.

Rockeyes are together and ready to start paintwork. Now I need to get the MERs built. And hopefully the Mk.83s show up soon, it'd be great to tackle the armament in one go. Fitting the Rockeyes together took most of the night, but I also got more cockpit prep done. Need to do some scratch detailing here and there first. Major focus areas of the scratch effort will be a throttle, miscellaneous "busy" wiring, and enhancing a some of the buttons on the consoles and IP.

Very nice Doogs!
I don't know how you do it, besides excellent modeling, every kit you build makes me want one...
And I don't even build planes!
Great stuff!!!

It keeps raining, I keep building and fitting. Last night's focus was on the canopy internal frame and the inner wing control surfaces. Happy to report that all go together rather well. The control surfaces are interesting - the flaps have these massive arms that mount into the wings. The piece between the wings and the flaps also has some little mounts that are supposed to be glued to them. DO NOT DO THIS! If you glue the mount tabs to the piece, you won't be able to fit it to the wing due to the angle. I found that fitting the mounts into the wing, and then placing the (flap cover?) on top worked very well. More fun tonight!

I'm liking the way that forward glazing fits. Didn't you say there were issues there with the 1/48 HB kit?

I'm liking the way that forward glazing fits. Didn't you say there were issues there with the 1/48 HB kit? Yeah, the IP hood seems to interfere with the windscreen in 1/48. Not an issue in the larger scale. Fit is perfect but does take a minor amount of pressure. All clear bits should fit so well.

No matter now that I've got the big one I guess. Curious where you sourced the AMS stuff. SprueBros is out of stock on everything.

Man. Work priorities cut down my bench time like it was a Game of Thrones character this weekend. Finally got back to things last night, albeit late (had to catch up on GoT!). I'd intended to get a real start on the cockpit, but found myself messing with the wings first. Trumpeter's approach to the wing folds is both really solid, and really frustrating. The "hard" elements on the wings are great. But the main folding actuator...good god. It builds out of four separate pieces. It's not stable. Alignment is...weird. It definitely sets the outer wing installation as a job that needs four hands. So on a whim, I thought...what about extending the wings? The connecting rods are a bit short, but they hold well enough, and the fit is really, really good. The question then...would it fit in my display cabinet? The Intruder is 21" long with a 20" wingspan in 1/32. My cabinets are 17.5" deep from the back to the sliding doors. Taped together the starboard wing, stuck it on, and tested it. The tadpole clears with an inch or so to spare. So that settles in. This puppy is getting built with the wings out! Yay for bigness!

If you have the space go for it. It's gonna be one eye catcher. That's for sure. I don't think I'm gonna have that option...lol.

Lots of real estate needed with the wings fully extended but will definitely look impressive when done!

Lots of real estate needed with the wings fully extended but will definitely look impressive when done! I've been thinking about it. It actually won't take up any more space this way since it's not like I'd be putting anything in front of or behind it in the cabinet... Getting it to a contest might be a bit more of a challenge...

Catching up on a few things here Doogs!! Looking really good! You seem to be taming the wings despite the holding issues! Always good to know it will fit in the case when its done! Been there...done tat, too many times!!

I can't believe that movie didn't do better at the box office. Definitely one of the better military aviation movies ever made - and IMO quite superior to the novel

Woot woot. I'm gonna guess that the bombs are cast with the texture? Either way those are nice. Yeah they're Wolfpack Navy Mk.83s, so they've got the texturing cast in. Really nice, simple design, too. Just add fins and fuse and you're good to go.
