Ground Texturing with Acrylic Caulking Compound

If you build dioramas with foam, you probably want to stay with water based paint and ground cover.
I've found that colored acrylic caulk works well for providing both a covering texture and a sticky base for stones and dirt which is stiffer and easier to predict than would be simple white glue.
Foam is rough shaped with rasps and course files. (Do this outdoors if you can.)
Stones are resin/plaster castings from molds found in the model railroad section. A dark grey or other earth tone color will help blend the stones later.
Use acrylic caulk. You can paint it; and it's water soluble. Choose a color which is close to what you want for the ground cover.
Use latex gloves and drag some "windblown" details into a thin layer of caulk.
Larger stones first. The Acrylic will provide a solid hold.
Locally grown, organic!
Press the larger stones into the goop.
Probably too many of the larger stones here. I'll thin out the population once the acrylic is dry.
I used to live in Abu Dhabi. This is the last of my "Magic Diorama Sand". (Collected from the Musaffah Cricket Stadium near our old apartment block.)
A few pinches of magic dust to help alter a few subtle colors here and there...

I tend to begin and end dioramas all at once. These will probably all be completed within a few months of each other. (Look for the smaller scenes at Columbus in August.)
No models here. Had some springtime snow and thought the tree with pink flowers looked nice.
