Thanks guys. This head has such a goofy grin on his face I can see why my friend gave it to me. His stuff is always very serious in nature. I used it here because I felt like it fit the scene. But this goofball has grown on me. I need to hit him with a matte coat, re-gloss the leather and weather up a couple small things but I think I'm done with this gent. Painted up a couple things to stick in the VW, spare box orphans. Next up either the base or back to the schwimmie. Thanks for looking and keeping me motivated. Cheers Jeff

Glossed up and decaled. Everything is just dry fitted so again the front tires are on backwards. Still a few more detail items to paint for stowage, but making progress at my usual glacial pace. Looking forward to matte coating it and beginning the weathering. I hate this toy like stage. I'm not basing the build on this specific vehicle, but here's the photo that got me started on this build. I'd like to take a crack at modelling the exact photo when my modelling skills get further along enough to do it justice (and I don't' have a 30$ budget). Cheers Jeff

Coming along nicely! Well, the Under New Management GB is open-ended, so when your abilities have caught up with your ambition you can re-create the poto there

Thanks for the encouragement. I'd really like to take a crack at a dio like that, but need to learn how to alter or scratch figures.
It seems like this hobby is sort of like golf. You improve quickly and knock a bunch of strokes off your game in the 1st year or so. After that noticeable improvement takes a lot more time. At my pace I should be able to make an attempt in a few decades.

Ha! The Mrs. is always on APB for stashes. Her Dad was terrible for buying kits and sneaking them in the house, I guess he'd find a kit he liked and ordered 3 copies of it plus a ton of AM to go along with it. I helped him a bit on cataloguing his stash to sell last summer and the final number was in the high 300's. That helps me keep on the straight and narrow whenever I feel like adding to the stash. Of course as I type this I have another browser tab opened on eBay. Jeff

Quick cell pic since I'm heading out with the Mrs., but got the basic colours down on the base. I'm hoping the weathering will tie it together nicely. I don't think I'll have this done by the Oct 1st deadline, but 2 false starts will do that to you. Either way it's been a fun little build so far. Thanks for looking. Jeff

Got the matte down on the VW and finished off the figure. Need to start weathering on the vehicle and hope to post a couple decent quality picks in the next couple days. Also did some more work on the base. I added some grass and weeds to a few of the cracks, but would like to make it seem a little more lived in. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe litter like newspaper? Thanks for looking. Jeff

Newspapers are good, empty bottle maybe. You might crack or slightly damage a sidewalk tile? But not too much unless there's a specific reason for it. The stones right now are pretty monotone. Any plans to vary their color? A bit of greenery will go a long way towards adding life.
The ready made grass tufts are excellent. But even those you can make yourself with a drop of PVA glue and some static grass are pretty good.

Thanks for the input and suggestions. Still going through some teething pains with weathering. I used about 4 different colours on the cobbles and I was sure I over did the contrast between the stones. But after the pigment wash the contrast mostly disappeared. It's a pain getting a feel for how much is too much or not enough. It honestly looks better to the naked eye, but there is always room for improvement. I'll see what I can do to correct it since I've only set the pigments with water for now.
Thanks again.

Hi guys.
Been away from the build for nearly 3 weeks, but hope to get back to it before Xmas. Our 2nd child came out about 6 weeks early and we were in the hospital for about 2 weeks sleeping on waiting room couches. The first couple days the prognosis was about as bad as you could get, but after a seemingly endless barrage of tests and examinations he's looking perfectly healthy with no long term damage. We got him home 2 days ago and everyone is doing amazing.
I wish I had more time for the hobby right now, but I have my little man at home and the MSU-UofM game on TV in 30 minutes so I am very happy. Sparty pulls it off and I'm ecstatic. Go Green.
Take care,
Jeff

All done. Keeping an eye on the little guy nightly between 7pm-1am so the Mrs can catch some sleep, so I've been able to squeeze a little bench time in with him. Between the vomiting and crapping he's been pretty critical of my work so far. Thanks for all the encouragement last month. It was a difficult time and much appreciated. Cheers Jeff

Looking mighty fine Jeff! I know very little about German vehicles, so this may be a stupid question: are the treads on the front and back wheels supposed to run in different directions?

Thanks for the comments guys. Looking mighty fine Jeff! I know very little about German vehicles, so this may be a stupid question: are the treads on the front and back wheels supposed to run in different directions? Chalk that one up to me sleeping about 3 hrs a night, thanks for pointing that out. I cut the rear set off, drilled pins and reinstalled them in the right direction. Of course after spending a fiddly hour fixing it I found a bunch of photos online of front and rear tire treads running in opposite directions. I never noticed this before you inspired me to look into it further. It almost looks like anything goes with Schwimm's. This guy has opposite tread directions between his driver and passenger side tires. I only wish I had decided to investigate this more before I decided to "fix" it. Cheers Jeff

SUPERB finish! Really dig the dusty wheels especially the spare! Thanks for reminding me why I am grateful that my boys are 'much' older... enjoy your time with the little one!
