I am with the guys here about the water. It reminds me exactly what I have seen in Wyoming last week at Grand Teton park.

It's been three weeks since I've done anything with the canyon. But thanks to those who have stopped by. I'm getting ready to add ripples to the surface of the water. My goal looks like this: I'll be using a clear acrylic gel to attempt the wavy surface. This is a test on glass. Atleast if it fails here I can scrape it off and try again. This material will shrink by about 50% as it dries. this means that the shape of the surface will be miniaturized and flatten down considerably. Fingers crossed!
You can see just how flat and featureless the surface is now (reflections from the shop clearly visible). I think the biggest challenge will be in getting a correct look for the water flowing around the base of the bridge.

I'll be bookmarking this. While the project I wanna do isn't shallow water......the clear water is something I need to try to do. Wanna do an overhead of a submarine at periscope depth. .....and I just found this picture which gives me an idea. A silhouette of a plane.....hmmm

Through about three levels of trial and error, I've had pretty good luck in thinning down the acrylic but am still having trouble with tiny air bubbles being trapped. If I can find a way to purge the bubbles, I think I'll be ready to put some on the surface of the diorama. Ripples, good. Tiny bubbles, bad.

Trial and error John, you'll get it figured out! It took about 6 or 7 episodes of the "Trial And Error Show" but I finally settled on a combination of acrylic medium, Future Floor Wax and brush technique which were good enough. I think with water on a diorama there can never be "perfect", only "good enough". After an hour's dry time.
In any event, it looks better than the perfectly glassy surface we had earlier and this whole affair has given me far more confidence in doing "dio-water". I need to finish up the two Sci-Fi cars and a few figures and we should be able to call this one complete.

Captured the 'flowing stream' nature very nicely John! I'd settle for that as 'good enough' for sure.

I've given the solar panels a redesign and come up with something I like much more than the original idea. Microscope cover slip (real glass), printed image of solar cells (stolen from Google) and Bare Metal Foil. That's it.
Mounted on dio.
Second unit for the other side of the bridge.

Hi there John,
Being busy at work for a few weeks now I skipped some tekst in this topic. So I don't know when or why you let go of the mice, but the alternative is even more sublime! I really like the mix of SF with an altered oldtimer and a "DeLorean timemachine" kind of vehicle. Beautiful finish on the water/dio as well.
Chapeau.....
greetings, Richard.
