Having not yet experienced the joys of a Dragon kit yet, can someone PLEASE explain to me what you all mean! It's driving me crazy not knowing! Imagine a hamster mating with an elephant - that's how loose the fit is

Dierk, sometimes it works, the other day I saw an elephamster.
Andy, thanks man, as long as you're falling in love with my stuff I'm a happy man.
I've built one track the past weekend, tomorrow number two...
and I'm thinking of making a diorama for it.
The Dragon Panther drive sprockets are a loose fit, when you dryfit them they just drop off. Nothing to really worry about sir, we were just joking around. Karma + 1
Guy Thanks for the clarification - and not mention the Karma! Not sure what I've done to deserve it. Andrew

I know there is very little if anything I can teach the people on here but at least I can try and do my best to support everyone - although that's get increasingly hard as the forum activity seems to have taken off a lot since the New Year. And of course this build in particular is a great inspiration for my Cuckoo build. Andrew

Andrew, thank you fella, great to know you can find some inspiration here. Deano, thanks for the kind words mate, I hope I can make something of the sprayworks because it's a long time ago I've spread those delicious fumes of paint in the mancave. Anyways, here's the Panther as good as ready for the paintjob, first diorama items (drums) can be seen too. I'm planning to make a diorama with a captured Panther and a whole bunch of GI's admiring this big enemy tank. I will also try make a piece of railroad with a locomotive and a flatbed wagon on it if I can compose these items in a nice way... The figures will be converted/sculpted and built OOTB. The tank won't be used. Yes my friends, this is gonna be someting BIG !

Andrew, thank you fella, great to know you can find some inspiration here. Guy fantastic idea!! And it will be big at this scale. On the inspiration point, I have a question for you. In terms of my Cuckoo build I've having an internal debate about the order in which the zimmerit and the stowage and spare track brackets were added to the hull. Common sense says the brackets would have been attached first and the zimm afterwards otherwise you risk having a loose bracket if/when the zimm broke. However the longer I spend at the hobby, the more I realise how much common sense doesn't always apply - especially with German armour! Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! Andrew

Very cool idea Guy, and as a railroadguy that should be looking great ey! I have that same shunting loc in the stash. From what I know they were also in service at our company after the war ^^
Looking forward to this tasty stuff!
Cheers

Wouter, in Hoogboom (Kapellen) they have an original loc of this type in their collection, it was abandoned by German troops when they were hunted by the allieds in our region. I'll go for it to make a very complete walkaround of that one.
Andrew, I think the zim was added later. Panzerjager2 is a specialist in this area, maybe he can confirm my thoughts ?

Really like your plans for the dio Guy! Looking forward to it! Andrew: I'm pretty sure the brackets were fitted first and then the Zimm applied. Think of Zimmerit like concrete, then imagine drilling into a thin layer of conrete to fit brackets - I don't think it would work But I also think it would be 'challenging' to attempt the same in braille scale - you're probably best off masking the areas where the brackets go, apply your Zimm and then remove the masks (I'm assuming you're going the wood-filler route?)

Thanks, that's what I was thinking! I couldn't work out for the life of me why it would be applied before but..... As for the wood filler route I think so yes, or maybe polyfiller....but not PE...I like a challenge!

AG, that's going to be an ambitious undertaking but should look pretty cool once you get it all together! Andrew, The zim was always the last thing added to the hull in the manufacturing process, all the other fixtures were either bolted or welded to the hull first and the zim applied around it as needed. The purpose of the zim was to prevent magnetic mines from attaching, so it wouldn't have been added in places that the tool racks would cover on their own. Dierk's suggestion on masking is a sound one, don't make life harder than it has to be in this scale!

Great idea. Should be pretty cool. The locomotive should be fun to weather all by itself.

Bill Thank you for the clarification on the Zim and when it was added to vehilcle I could only imagine it was the last thing to be be applied but, as you noticed, I do have a habit of making life harder than it needs to be - and not just with modelling. And yes I will be attempting to mask areas whre I'll need to apply plastic later on! Thanks as always!! Andrew PS Sorry for the delay in coming back to acknowledge your post!!!

No problem Andrew, we are here to help where necessary. Won't you go for Atak zimmerit ? It saves a lot of time.

Andrew, Magic Sculp is also a very good product to make zimmerit but it costs too, maybe you have that on your hobby bench ? And Milliput Extra fine is not that expensive, works fantastic too (I used it to zim my rear armor plate, it's the white parts you see). I really like the Trumpeter kit, cristal clear drawings and not too manyuch fiddlydiddly stuff, deliciously straightforward ! First I will build the different sub elements, then I will see where I can add extra details... Best regards ! AG.

Looking good Guy! Sounds very un-Trumpeter-like - they usually like to add tons of dust-like particles
