In waiting for the opening gun on this GB I saw no harm in at least getting the base ready. It gave me something to do while contemplating a 1/35 landing craft done entirely from scratch. I began with a ready-made thing from the art store -- a 12 x 16 gesso board.
It's a hollow box with a face made from rigid hardboard. It has a white primed surface. Painted black, add some lines of Vellejo aluminum and a really heavy layer of Future Floor Wax: Turns out, Future Floor Wax is really great for polishing floors! Seem glossy enough? ?

Oh, go on then: add my name to the list...the rational part of my brain kept telling me 'you don't need another project, you have a stash bursting at the seams and lots of shelf-queens to finish' then I realised there's bugger all rational about this hobby

Heard of a guy who ordered a massive chunk of resine (if I remember it right, it was a already built studio scale X-Wing), and it was cracked into several pieces. Paid a few 100 € for it - Id go probably nuts.

"Poor Dierk. " Yeah, slightly poorer now that I had to add a kit I'm entering an AMT AT-ST, should be with me in a couple of days. Once I've had a look at the sprue(s) I'll decide if I can turn my idea into reality.

These just arrived in yesterday from Varga Workshop in Hungary. Both figures are between 8-10cm, should be fun to paint! Cheers, Shay

These figures are done by a guy who sculpts and does his own small scale resin production. I also got a Hobbit figure from him: www.vargamuhely.com/Damn that base looks hot John! You could shave in front of that thing! It is a little on the dark side though lol

OK, since this is an open end action, I have found the idea I have looked for! First idea was doing an AT-ST from Bandai in an Endor forest setting, but now it will be, surprise, a (sculpted) figure from STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. Which one I will come up with in the building thread but you could bet it would not be Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Greedo, Jabba, Ben and no Droids. No Tusken raider, no Jawa. Hopefully something more "interesting" and not done before (I think) except an Action figure from Kenner.
Stay tuned,
Frank

The paint is plain old Krylon from a spray can, Flat Black. Nothing special. There was some masking for the silver stripes. But that could easily be changed out for decal stripes and markings of you've got them. Actually 2 layers of Future. The first was sprayed on and then sanded with wet 1500 grit. The second layer was heavy, about .5mm depth and brushed with a disposable sponge brush. If you get tiny air bubbles at the surface, use your airbrush to spray rubbing alcohol to break the surface tension. I was worried the alcohol might affect the Future, because to one degree or another the use of alcohol has affected all of our futures. But in this case, the surface cured clear and glossy after 24 hours of dry time in Colorado's low humidity air. Best of luck!

No, you're right: it's not horrible, but it is pretty crappy - let's agree on saying that it provides you with a good basis to make something from.
