This one will be slow, but I've always wanted to do one of these, and my wife bought me one for Christmas, so what better time than now? One thing that bugged me about the Italeri kit was the rather soft detail on the wheels, so since I had a couple of Tamiya M26 kits in the stash, I decided to use the Tamiya wheels and suspension arms. It was really easy, and the Italeri shocks fit too, with a little work clearancing the bottom mounts. I'll be looking to buy the DEF Model upgrade for this kit, mainly to get the canvas-covered mantlet. So far: This is what happens when you stand in front of your newly organized stash and pull something on a whim....

Nice start Russ! Although I do wish you'd give us a pic of the box art - I for one have no idea what an M47 looks like

Always dangerous to stare too long at the stash unsupervised!

Dierk, forgot to take a pic this morning, but it's Ahnohld's (also known in Callifornia as the Gobernator) tank. Bill, too true. Plans sure go out the window.

Still had to google it Russ. But I've got a funny story about Arni - as you may know movies shown in German cinemas and on TV get dubbed, and Arnold wanted to be the German voice of the Terminator...but got turned down. Reason given was that they didn't want the Terminator to sound like a peasant

I did some more last night, hull parts, cleaning up seams where there shouldn't be any, etc. The hull join in back was a little problematic, but looks passable now, and I've put the bolt heads back on the brake covers that I lost when sanding and blending the rear hull plate join. And one big oops: A little clear-headed examination revealed that the M26 wheels are not in fact correct. They're dished, and shouldn't be. Rats, too late to fix now without destructive disassembly, so I'll have to figure out a way to live with it, maybe a prototype with lots of M46 parts. Actually, at this point, I'm thonking of trying to scare up one of those old AEF M46 conversions and just using the hull front and a Tamiya turret, or maybe just throw caution to the wind and build something "WOT"-ish. Anyway, pics: I'm using Tamiya M26 bits wherever possible, like the towing lugs, since they are in fact the same as the M47 parts, and much better in detail.

Thanks, Leon. And BREAKING NEWS: A little more research has revealed that the road wheels were in fact the same part number, with the difference being the "pressed-in mud guard", which gives the appearance of a shallower dish. M26, M46 and EARLY M47s were built using the mud guards, deleted on later built M47s and onward, all through M48 production, and once again used on later M60s, after the attempt at using aluminum wheels proved to be less-than satisfactory. So theoretically I could put some M60 aluminum wheels on the next IDF M26 what-if...... Oh happy day.

This thing is sitting on my bench, next to the T-62 and the Leo, and they're all mocking me. They laugh at me when I turn my back at them, they tell stories about me in bars......

Mmmmm, work area almost finished, moving is a cast iron beotch. I was perusing my collection of shelf queens and interrupted builds the other day, wondering which might be good to pick up when the time comes, and this one came out at he top of my list. That's what the voices are saying, anyway.

Russ, why don't you paint it as a Jordanian M47, and place it in a diorama with a M50 or M51 passing the knocked out M47? Talk soon, Joel.

Hearing voices is not the problem. Arguing with the voices is not a big problem. Losing the argument means you need professional help.

And, I've actually made some progress towards getting my work area ready to actually "work in". Yeah, I know, but I mean it this time......

That one's not necessarily bad.... The loudest one says: "Imagine that, five six-cylinder engines bolted up to a common output. Who on God's green earth thought that up? Out with it!"
