Mea culpa - youre absolutely right. Thanks for the hint, Bill.
Grey or not grey - thats the question! There are lots of sand yellow guns (and the instructions state the same). Id like to paint it grey, if that should be correct for early 1945 too. There are even camouflaged versions of it.

Grey is great Lucas. Not all units repainted their guns. You can make a real eyecatcher of it when you go for modulation style paintwork. I'm looking forward to this !

Decided for sand yellow and - as AG said - did a little modulation. Most probably you wont see it on the pictures, because I mixed the sand yellow with a little middle brown, added washing etc. Basically, the order was like that:
>Black primer >Mixture of Black + Vallejo Aluminum (acrylic) for the metal look >Maskol added with an old brush >Sand yellow >Sand yellow + middle brown >Maskol came off >Diluted Nato black for the gun muzzle >Washing with Nuln Oil (Games Workshop black washing) >Highlights with sand yellow >Painting of barrel (50/50 black/alminum) and details
Next step: Painting the young mans sister.

The Jaboschreck was a later-war gun vs. it's more standard Flak 38 cousin, so the yellow is the right call IMHO. Sounds like you got the look you were after with that recipe...pics!

There you go, Bill. BTW, if you plan to build that Jaboschreck too - beware of the basket! While the surrounding cage is pretty easy to build, bringing on the PE parts is most challenging, especially the side part, where you need to be VERY correct. That said, it happened that some glue went off and came on the PE part and clogged a part of it. So I needed the smallest drill in my collection to drill the holes again. I found a picture of a Czech modeler who painted it yellow with winter camo - that was the thing I was looking for. Camouflage and a bit of something not too boring. The plane signs are hand painted, like the original and I added some cigarettes on the ground (incluiding a Camel cigarette box on the Jaboschreck). They were often traded at the black market they say, like you can see here. This was called "Zigarettenwährung" here (=cigarette currency).

I don't know if you are planning on leaving them there, but I like the figure sitting on the edge of the base.

That was the plan. Depending on the project itself of course, I like to "blast" a given frame from time to time, it gives a diorama/vignette more depth.

You're right about the delicate nature of the PE for the spent shell catcher basket...I've done a few of the Flak 38s and each time that was the one area that was a true exercise in patience! You nailed it nicely though. Good call with the yellow and white-wash combo.

Many thanks, Bill, Andy and Noname. Complete now! By chance, I found a figure in my stash that fits perfectly and I have overseen it at first glance. Pictures of the complete scene will follow tomorrow. Whats next? PzKpfWg III or the Vorpanzer? Hmmm....
