In my frustration of dealing with the issues I've run into on my Sturmtiger project, I thought a change of focus would help - not to mention getting my fingers and eyes used to working in 1/48 again. I picked up this Bandai Mobelwagen, partially assembled, at a recent show. The guy had been putting it together out of the box, but I felt it needed some detailing. So far, I've drilled out the barrels, ran the headlight wire, modified the fenders, removed seams, and filled gaps. After slapping on some paint it hit me that there was more that needs to be done, but this is where it stands right now. The hull and top aren't joined yet, to explain the front gap in the 1st pic.

Nice, the interesting stuff keeps coming Nice paintjob. And drilling out the barrels and all sure didn't hurt, on the contrary. Cheers

Looking good Bob! I built the 1/35 model of this back in my 20s.

Thanks Wouter. Got a few more changes on the way. There were some others I would have like to have done, but they needed to be done before anything was assembled.
Hey Dierk, the 1/48 Bandai kits were years ahead of their time when they came out in the early 70's, and for the most part, they still hold up pretty well today. Among other things, they include features like crewmen and partial interiors.
Appreciate the comment, Leon
Deano, I built a number of these back when they came out. I'm still impressed with what you get.
As you may have noticed I corrected my mistake of calling this thing a Wirbelwind... had a brain cramp when I posted this last night.

Might as well correct it properly and call it a Möbelwagen I didn't realise this was a prototype and the Vierling was replaced with a 3.7 Flak before going into production.

Thanks Bruce and Tobias. Might as well correct it properly and call it a Möbelwagen I didn't realise this was a prototype and the Vierling was replaced with a 3.7 Flak before going into production. Well, changed it again. You'll have to settle for the way it is now as my keyboard is umlaut challenged. Yeah, it's strange that both Bandai and Tamiya originally did kits of this one instead of the version that was actually produced.

Got a UK keyboard - so same lack of Umlauts - I just copy and paste from other texts when I can be ar$ed...which isn't often

Got a few more things done today in between getting the final touches done for the AMPS show this weekend. Here, I replaced the kit headlight with one salvaged from another kit. The mount was acquired from the spares box. I also went ahead and added the light wire conduit. You can see a world of difference comparing this set up to the original parts. Lastly, I went ahead and attached the folded, thinned fender I had removed earlier. Moving to the back I added the intake cover panels on both sides. These were made out of index card stock. Then, using wrapped wire, I made the small retaining spring for the fender. Plastic from a package of cinnamon rolls was used to make the fender hinges, along with the addition of some .010 round styrene. I finish the day by replacing the thick handle on the engine cover with a bent wire one. There may be a short delay on further updates until after I get back from the AMPS Nationals. I'll play it by ear....

Ummmmm....cinnamon rolls...sounds like such torture! It just proves I'm willing to face hardship and go the extra mile to get the materials I need! Thanks Wouter. She's just about ready to move back into the painting stage.

Added details look great. Glad to hear you're willing to sacrifice your waste-line in the pursuit of building a model

Glad to have you along, Andy. Be careful with the popcorn, though. It looks like you could lose some fingers trying to snatch some.
