So, HK was kind enough to send a test shot of the 1/32 B-17F my way. The catch? Build it. Darn. So, this one will be for a Model Aircraft write-up, but I couldn't not share some here and there. There's so much to this build that I can give you sneak peeks without intruding on the article I think. So, the E/F kit features a large majority of the G sprues. The starboard fuselage is completely new to allow for and open crew access door. Also there have been some changes to other portions like a firewall that was molded with some non-exsistent recesses on one side that was quite head scratching. You get an E and F nose section for both type window configurations. You can also open up a hole for the bubble on the nose present on some Fs. Also, the kit has a number of clear nose pieces. It will come with the two gun nose used on Memphis Belle (though this part is still in production, and will be sent to me later for my build). Yes, I'm building Memphis Belle. And yeah, that may be a little cliche. However, to my knowledge only a couple others are being built before release. One I know will not be Belle. I'm not sure on the other yet. Belle will be one of the kit options, and I suspect it will be exceedingly overdone. But I've got being first on my side, as well as the fact that honestly, few of these get finished. I wrote a little bit on why I chose Belle. Here: jimsmodels.com/2016/03/26/building-belle/That and the awesomeness of her paint and weathering patterns make it a no brainer. Eduard has been kind enough to sponsor the build, so I'll be going all out with the following: BIG ED Parts 1 & 2 (Includes every photoetch set, plus masks) BIG SIN Engines Set Brassin Superchargers Brassin Wheels Brassin guns Brassin 250 and 500lb bombs Fabric seat belts Now, these sets are for the B-17G, but I'll be able to use a lot of the stuff to crossover to the F. Eduard will be releasing F specific sets when the kit drops, but I don't have time to wait. Uschi van der Rosten has graciously supplemented the build with woodgrain decals, rigging wire for aerials, and some other goodies I look to incorporate into the build. I'll also be using a combination of Kitsworld decals and Maketar masks made custom for this build. So this will be quite the undertaking. I plan to start this weekend, so here's the tease. Stay tuned. And again, many thanks the HK Models, Large Scale Modeller, Eduard, Uschi van der Rosten, and Maketar for making this the "build of the century."

Wow! Holy Crap! And, Wow!
If I could make a request. Please, please take more than just 3 or 4 progress shots as the build moves. Since you can't show much during a sponsored project until things are complete, It will be worth the wait if you could save up an inventory of at least a few dozen pictures of the interior as well as any problems you encountered along the way.
One downside I can see in doing the Memphis Belle is that the original paint has undergone at least a couple of restorations since the airplane was returned from Europe. This will make accurate recreation somewhat more complex. But at least there will be loads of good pictures taken at several points during the last 70 years.
How long would you estimate the to complete the whole thing?

Glad to have everyone aboard.
John: I'm going to be putting some more thought into how to go about WIPing this in a way that keeps folks interested, share some thoughts on the build, but also save some stuff to drive people to want to grab the magazine obviously. I usually post a WIP of these and kinda teeter out as they go since I don't want to spoil the article, but I'm going to try to be better here about that.
Andy, Marc, no organs were sold in the procurement of this build...amazingly. I'll tell you I longed planned to tackle this one when it came out. And given my love for the B-17 I would certainly want to go "all out" on it. I'm not sure it would be as AM laden if I was having to fund it though.

In past eduard used a silver metal which wouldn't hold solder. Have they switched to brass?
If so, I'll give them a much more serious look.

The silver stuff was plating that Eduard used to (I think) protect the brass from corrosion - almost impossible to glue either. Only way I could do anything with it was to sand it with some fine sand-paper to remove some of the plating. I think they've stopped doing that now - the most recent sets I bought were unplated.

Yeah I believe that's long since been abandoned. It's brass as far as I know. It does solder

It does solder That's been my experience as well, however there are still older sets circulating out there that are the old nickel plated variety. Looks like you've got plenty of stuff to dress up the Belle with now Jimmy!

I need to get an update out. It has slowed a bit. I've been sick, and dealing with a mojo slump so no work the past week or so. Plus I have a mag build taking up my time with a deadline on the horizon. But I hope to have an update on this one soon.

Finally. I've been slacking on the building and the updating, but here it is. Front section mostly done. I need to finish up a fire extinguisher and get it in there. I'm also waiting for Resin2Detail to send me some O2 bottles on mounts that I'll swap out for my scratched addition. Cockpit also mostly done, but it too will need a smaller O2 bottle added. Work from here has been focused on assembling everything from the bomb bay back, getting the PE in place on pieces and the fuselage halves. Then I'll prime and paint in sections. Stay tuned.
