May 22 SdKfz 9/2 Update.
Not a big one this week, but we do now have the counter weights with all the tool bins and tire stowage.. The parts will be all hollow cast with shoebox insers so there will be a seam to blend in but pretty easy to do.
The Doors,Hinges and some inner supports will be PE so you can position them open or closed.. Will make the roller assembly this week and that will tie them together to fit on the counter weight Gantry.
This will be a major Milestone as that will wrap up all the major sub-assemblies then I can move on to all the details like the winch/drive and all the electrical boxes then go through and decide what parts to make in PE vs resin.

We have a Complete Counter weight. Talk about a balancing act to get everything to stay without glue. Will start making molds for most of it this weekend so I can do the final fit then on to Winch,Motor and controls.
Will not get much work done on this next week as I have a few Huge Sign Jobs I will be needing to focus on but will work a little bit on it at nights if my sanity holds true.

A few of the photos shows some crappy ass looking brackets.. That is just some card stock I use to test my PE drawings to make sure they fit before I send off the artwork for production.I didn't like the looks of the plastic parts I had in there last week.. just too out of scale.

D-DAY Update..Major Milestone number 2.. Finally have the winch all figured out.. Well the best I can from what I can see anyway. (I know only drawings but have to start someplace) So this puts me around 75%.. After this all I need to do are the Platforms and controls but those are going to be very straight forward.. Just need to have everything built so I can fit them properly.
Then just finish up the PE and I think it will be ready for the final tooling and the dreaded Instructions.
Will start building it this week and send out a few of the parts for printing. (Mainly the gearing and Electrical motor/drive/Disconnect)

Kinda sad to build all that then cover it up.. But Oh well that's the name of the game.

Been awhile since I have done an update so thought I would..

Since my last post I went ahead and broke down and purchased my own 3D Laser Printer (Form2 Stereolithography SLA) Just got tired of the Hit and miss quality from Shapeways and the long lead times. This has turned out to be a HUGE time saver over machining. I will still machine some parts as I have discovered 3D printing really struggles with large flat areas which I didn't think about. (Mostly warping while it cures) But that is quick and easy for me to machine, Laser cut or just scratch build those parts. But for complex parts it is amazing so on the final kit there will be a mix of Cast Resin, Printed Resin, Laser Cut and PE parts so a true Multimedia kit.

Here is the final fitting of the Gantry,winch and Motor assembly. I printed most of these in "Draft" mode to save time before I do the Final prints for the molds, Excuse the crappy Primer paint.. Was 100 degrees out when I painted it and grabbed the wrong reducer (Meant to use slow and I grabbed fast) so I was basically shooting dry paint so way to much fuzz and speckling. I just wanted a look at it in a solid color.

Your looking at 120 or so parts that will make up the base section. Will be changing all the control/Brackets to PE as they look too out of scale for my tastes.

Wow! Just amazing. Had the chance to see the real thing FAMO 9 at Overlord Museum in Normandy... Man, it was HUGE!!!! I didn't really realize it's true size until I saw it. Keep up with the beautiful work!

It's been awhile on an update but most of the final stuff was pretty boring for the last month.. The Kt is completely Drawn and Started the final test build and Instructions. Should be shipping in the next couple of weeks.
