London is a pretty dirty town - lots of diesel busses and taxis (after a day's work as a motorcycle courier/messenger people used to ask what coal mine I worked in) so I would suggest a grimy/dusty wash to give it the finishing touch.

Two definitions that I know: the crust of dried blood that forms on a wound, and a derogative term describing strike breakers - people who go to work despite the majority of the workforce having voted to go on strike.
