Thanks Bill, coming from you that means alot. I tried to align their eyes depending on their future position on the tank or on the ground. For example, if a figure is peering around the left side of the turret from the rear then I tried to align their gaze to the right. I am working on the base and the weapons and will post pics soon. Got the base constructed with ground cover. It is made from foam board trimmed with black painted basswood. I used this so I could dig out a hole used for an abandoned German observation post/machine gun pit/bunker entrance. I then covered the base with brown tinted celluclay which I covered with scenic express crocus/grass ground covering and grass tufts. I finally installed the T-34 and intend on placing a hastily abandoned MG42 with some other German evidence. Whilst looking at the pics can someone give me ideas or not, about possible camouflage attempt by the Germans to cover the entrance to the bunker and also what to do, if anything about the small unoccupied space in front of the tank. I was thinking maybe a small bush or bushes. Here are the pics:

Love the groundwork so far. There are others far better qualified than I on here to comment on German camp techniques.

A bush in front would help fill the space or what about a ruined/damaged barbed wire entanglement with wooden supports? You might expect to find one near a bunker. Just thought.

Ok, I think I solved the aforementioned problem of "space filling" with the addition of a couple of trees with autumn leaves. I also added a branch to the bunker/tunnel opening in an attempt by the residents at crude camo. I also added some abandoned equipment to the Observation Post namely an MG42 which is out of ammo, along with 2 panzerfausts (1 used and 1 not), and a bunch of spent shells. I also plan to add a fallen helmet. The squad is now armed with various ppsh weaponry sporting scratch built slings. All that is left is to arrange the figures and make some minor touchups.

I have finally finished this project and I think I accomplished the task I set out for. I named this: "One Steppe at a time" and it probably ended up in the wrong forum topic as it turned into a dio. Call it artistic license I guess . The arrangement of the troops fit perfectly into the unfolding scene and the poses adapted well to the the tank. I am starting to get the hang of the "dark side" called armor modeling and am wishing I had embarked on it sooner. I really like the historic aspect of it. Well, on to the pictures:

Point taken, Dierk. I really didn't know this and wish I had, but in retrospect, I can say that this T-34 got a bad lot of track links...lol. Anyway, what would be the preferred color before I start checking black and white photos as reference?
