Hello Everybody, I am starting to get a few started projects out of the way before I really start tearing into the Matilda again. I picked up the Michael Roberts figure at MMSI last year. It says 6th Wisconsin 1863. This tells me Gettysburg, July 1st at the Railroad cut. I am honestly don't know how many of the guys in the Iron Brigade were still wearing the blocked Hardee hats or gaiters, though some do show up in photographs. It's a nice figure, though it might be a bit thin. Anyway, I got him assembled and base coated: I also got a start on shading: Hopefully, I'll have more to show soon. Thanks for looking in.

Hello everybody, I have pretty much gotten the main painting done. I should be starting the assembly and dusting this evening. I'm hoping to have him basically done in the next few days. Thanks for looking in.

Thank you Leon. It's nice to run into a project that doesn't take a few months

Hello again, I had a real good day on him. He has already taken his place in the display case. I have to say he was a fun little project to paint. I have another figure almost ready to start, then probably back to something big and involved. Thanks for looking in.

Really turned out great. Just wondering what 100mm would equal to in another scale like 1/35th/1/48th ect?

With wargame figures, the measurement quoted is a theoretical distance for a figure standing upright ("At Attention") between the bottom of the feet (top of any integral base) to the level of the eyes (headgear makes it difficult to measure to the crown of the head) of a man of average stature. I assume display miniatures follow a similar formula. So if your average chap is about 5ft 8 inches, the measure to eye level is about 5ft 3 inches or 1600.2mm; dividing this by 100mm gives you (roughly) 1/16th scale. If the measurement is to the top of the head this is about 1727mm, generally rounded up to 1730, which gives a scale of 1/17.3 but I suspect would be rounded to a more convenient 1/18th - but this is generally given as the conversion for "90mm"... However, if the figure has an item of equipment of a known dimension (e.g. musket/rifle) it's best to use this in determining scale, as it will be constant while people vary: hence a 1/32nd rifle will look too big on a 1:35th figure, but not vice versa. (However, see s24.photobucket.com/user/Dragonslayer_1966/media/farewelltotheking.jpg.html ) Regards, M

I didn't see the posts. Thanks for the compliments. M. I scaled the rifle out and it comes in at 1/17 scale.

Well, that looks mathematically correct, but a bit odd. However, it does show there's some variation between sculptors in their interpretation of scales expressed in millimeters (or fractions of an inch). Not as bad as with "28mm", though... Cheers, M
