It looks like a order of magnitude improvement over the AFV Club kit.

It looks like a order of magnitude improvement over the AFV Club kit. I'm hearing the exact opposite. Plus it's supposed to be over $90. gary

Sturmbird & Tony, all I know from the previews on Track-Link, Armorama, & AMPS seem to indicate that the kit is very, very good. I have a lot of respect for the AFV Club kit that Tony built, and would like to find the SBS that he posted on the kit for reference. I have one on pre-order from Tower Hobbies and the cost is $90.00 with the metal barrel. I have heard people complaining that the E8 suspension is simplified, but IMHO it gives a accurate representation of the 1/1 item without the gimmickry of the AFV Club offering, not to mention the barrel length problems, and the need to replace the tracks unless you are planning to represent the one Zebra Mission prototype. However, your mileage may vary, Joel.

The supplied munitions with Tamiya kit are not vintage Korea or WWII (they saw very limited use in WWII). They are the late model pattern (but are nice for an M198). Never went so far as to check out the powder (WWII can be different, but have seen a lot of Korean in modern tubes). gary

Tony, about how long did it take you to build the Kaizen links on your M43? Thanks in advance, Joel.

I don't remember Joel but longer than I would have liked. Many parts and those end caps were a nightmare.
I liked the Master Club much more, those resin pins were delicate and you have to be very careful when you insert them in the link holes.
I can put a set of Friuls together in less time than any other brand.

Thanks for the quick answer Tony. I have a lot of Sherman/Sherman based kits planned that need T80 HVSS tracks.

If you're going for the Masterclub tracks, drop our own Martin (martslay?) a line - you won't get them cheaper than from him (plus you'll get a discount for being an MSCer)

FYI, a "full build" review has been posted on the AMPS site. The only parts he replaced are the headlight & siren guards with PE metal. Can't wait for mine to et here, Joel.

Sorry for the delay on the promised report on the M40. While I was on my way to Florida for Thanksgiving, I developed a "horseshoe tear" in my left retina. Drs. not sure how it happened, but building is suspended for another month till the eye fully heals. After the release from the dr. will start a sbs on the kit for all to read. Thanks for all your patience, Joel.

Thank you Leon, hope the rest of the month goes as well as the first week. The "Floater" that caused me to first seek medical attention has shrunk by half. Talk soon, Joel.

Sorry about your injury bud. I've got floaters too and I have to move my eyes all the time to keep them out of the way so I can see,PITB

Yeah, Tony, it is a PITB. I'm hoping that the healing goes as well as the first week. I am still probably going to wait till after Christmas to start my M40. I've got two grand daughters and one great grandson living with us and it is really hectic up here in Leavenworth. Talk more soon, Joel.

I designed the upgrade for the telephone system from just west of town all the way out to the Army base. Is the greyhound training school or rescue place still out there near the base?

Tony, I just don't know. I worked with a lady who was a foster parent for greyhounds, and she didn't mention any rescue place or training school to me. The only animal rescue going on is the Federal Prison is raising Buffalo that can be seen from the road between the Fort and the town proper. Talk soon, Joel.

last night I looked at close to 70 photos of the M40, and I caught up on a few things. Plus one this is bugging me to death!
* if your going to build Adolf's Revenge, you will need to change out the suspension to an earlier style VVSS (looks like the up swept arm type).
* saw zero tracks with the chains (like Tamiya poses). All used cables (wire rope)instead. There were even two or three that didn't have the loading platform!
* I never saw any place to store the aiming stakes in the photos! Got to have them to shoot much past 1000 yards. Then I looked at the Tamiya kit and the AFV kits, and don't see them either! I am bugged to death over this.
* lastly; I saw several M40's (starts out as an M40 anyway)that had no gun tube. No pics of the inside, but looked they were used as ammunition haulers or maybe even as an APC.
just adding to the quagmire gary
