Hi guys. Back again after a couple months away from the bench. Got a start on this a couple nights ago. I picked it up a couple months ago at a show just because I heard that it was one of Dragons best kits. So far it doesn't disappoint. I'm hoping that I don't get derailed by work or kids and can keep moving forward on this build. Thanks for looking. Jeff

AGE BEFORE BEAUTY move over sonny. By the time you've shuffled all the way to the front row, he'll have finished the build

Hi guys. Finally managed to grab a little time at the bench and made some progress. I'm pretty confident I'm going to leave the turret hatches open, I just hope that the empty hull isn't too obvious since it's a pretty large hatch. The assembly is finally wrapped up as well. It's by no means a big tank, but it's bigger then you expect going into the project. Maybe 3/4's of a sherman. Assembly was a breeze except for the grab bar behind the hatch. The instructions were classic Dragon . I'm hoping I can hit it with some primer tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for looking. Jeff

Sorry for the delay. My oldest (4yrs old) has been ill for a week. He's doing great now, but my bench time was replaced with throwing him under my arm and running him to a toilet or sink. I did however manage to finally get a primer coat on. I'm really beginning to like the Ammo line of paints. The Acrylic primers require a different approach then the lacquers I'm used to, but I don't come wandering in from the garage looking like Reverend Jim anymore. Also managed to put some rusty tones down on the muffler and heat shield. I'm going to take a shot at the hairspray technique and try to leave some remnants of the original IJN colours. Thanks for looking. Jeff

At the danger of repeating myself: looking good! Looking forward to seeing how HS works with Ammo paints - from what I've read it seems to work best with Tamiya

Hi again. Did a little more research on a proper photo setup. It's not perfect, but work lamps and parchment paper is a big improvement. Got a coat of Tamiya Kure Grey (XF-75) down. I was pretty happy with the paint job. It came out sort of mottled and faded. Unfortunately it's hard to see that with the photos. "It looks way better in person" seems to be the motto for modelers and used car salesmen on the internet. Plan on getting a gloss coat down tonight for the decals and possibly paint the propellers. Thanks again for the encouragement. Jeff

Looking good Jeff! The hardest thing about sharing photos of a model is the wide variation in monitor settings and trying to capture 'how it really looks'! So many different factors including your camera, lighting, etc. come into play but from what I can see, you captured it pretty good!

Hi Gents. Back again. Since my last update I made some good headway. I managed to finish painting the exhaust, the props and suspension. I also got the decals down and a small start to the weathering with some chipping and a wash. Still a ways to go weathering wise but it's a start. I found plenty of photos online of marines inspecting abandoned Japanese tanks so I've been putzing around with a base something like this. The figure still needs some personal gear, but that's the basic idea. I'm a little intimidated by weathering with. It's my first vehicle I've built that was situated outside NW Europe. Thanks for looking and your patience. Jeff

Looking great so far. I'd like to get one of these. They look like they'd be a blast to weather.

If they converted one of these into a mobile "Rest Room"/"Comfort Station", would it be classified as a "Ka-Mi Khazi"? Cheers, M
