I need a crane truck to go along with the Aeroflot helicopter I've been building. There was a thing called the K-31: It was based on this: Thus far: Yep. It's blue, alright. There's still pulleys and rigging and more plastic. But I think I can finish the truck over the next couple of weeks.

Very impressive scratch work John! Although the truck in your ref pic looks more like a ZIS-5V to me

Although the truck in your ref pic looks more like a ZIS-5V to me You're right, of course. But I already had the GAZ-AA in my stash and it will be, "close enough" given that the main topic will be the helicopter.

Nice work. I have one of those Miniart trucks to build one day. I see on the box of yours 371 parts. Was it a big job ?

371 parts. Was it a big job ? Yes. But it's rewarding. Miniart as well as Bronco go together one tiny little part at a time. It makes them fragile but very detailed. They're wonderful kits. But they do require a certain degree of determination to finish. The scratchbuilt crane section has proved more challenging than the truck chassis. Research is spotty at best. Most of my reference has been from other modelers in Russia. I can only hope their examples are accurate to the original.

Jeez! What color blue is that?? I couldn't have put it better myself. There is blue, then there is blue and then there is whatever blue that is..... Seriously though John that is starting to come together quite nicely. Well done. Andrew

I call the color, "1950 Aeroflot blue". It's hard to get color pictures from 1953 Soviet Russia. But from what I've found in old equipment, clothing, propaganda posters, this sky blue was common for support equipment used by Aeroflot. There are later schemes with yellow and dark blue. But the sky blue seems to be something often referenced from the 50's. These are toys made in Russia. It would guess that the colors are probably pretty close.

Heya John. Did you prime the body in black? It looks a few shades darker than the pictures you've shown here. The reason I'm asking is that I do plan on using this color in a future build.

Heya John. Did you prime the body in black? Yes. I primed the truck and bigger sub-assemblies in black satin prior to the light blue.
