With the helicopter finished and the shop cleaned up I've decided start work on something which caught my eye back in about 2002, the Republic gunship from Attack Of The Clones. In a sense this is yet another helicopter. If we take one of these: And cross it with one of those: We have: There's plenty of good source material available for reference. So marking and cutting plastic is pretty straightforward. Paper patterns glued to 1mm plastic sheet. I hope to have it finished by Late April so that I can post it on Facebook's annual "May the Fourth be with you" event. Thanks for stopping by! John

You will have to talk to Disney's lawyers about that. I know a few dudes who would be glad to crank a kit out if you wanted to make it so. Didn't Disney pretty much disavow the prequels anyway?

I'm always a little surprised at how much interest these builds generate. I kinda thought I was the only guy with a serious interest in these "off the beaten path" designs. The majority of work this evening went into the flooring. I'll have to make some decisions very shortly about lighting and interior paint. I've got an old F-14 cockpit with looks like a good match for the gunship. Various parts and sheets used for the floor. A replay of the movie shows the floor to be mostly devoid of features. But I wanted to add some visual interest.

Nice work on the flooring John! I like your idea using the cockpit.

Thanks to everyone for watching. More plastic work as well as considerable time in arranging LEDs. It's kind of a chicken and egg problem with lights. They must be incorporated into the build and then removed prior to painting the inside. Flush mounted floor lighting will be done with fiber optics. (Holes drilled here.) From the screenshots of the film we can see the general arrangement for interior lighting. The roofline here would indicate 4 rows of two lights each. A somewhat more clear picture of the aft rear. The box construction of the roof will need to support a lot of weight as well as provide space for lighting.

If any of you has a stormtrooper costume in 1/35 I might be interested. It was still early to paint the interior. But there's a point where certain things need to be done in order to push on with other stuff, like LEDs for example. So the cargo bay was primed in grey as well as the little storage bin beneath the cockpits. The only lights now remaining for completion will be the cockpit instrument panels. The top half of the ship and wings will actually be pretty simple in terms of construction, but difficult and complex in terms of accurate measurements over both sides. A few days on the road and then back at it. Stay tuned!

As per ususal you don't do things by halves!! I admire your stellar approach to each build you do, details such as working leds make them look so much more realistic. Cheers, Shay

John Apologies just catching up on this.
About your comment "I'm always a little surprised at how much interest these builds generate", I don't think you should be.
As others have said your sci-fi stuff is original and brilliantly executed - I really don;t have the imagination for it, let alone knowing where to even start.
I have no doubts that this will be equally superb once finished and I'll be following this.
ATB.
