Leon; keep in mind that there have been at least two completely different engines in the M88, One uses gasoline. Might even be a third. The gear box is totally different from the CD850 used in the M60, and looks nothing like it. On the otherhand I suspect it would be easy to scratch build one, as they are literally a cast iron box shape. Go to the "Twin Disc" website for a good look. We made them for years where I worked at, but sold off the design to be made on license. gary

Gary,i guess i worded my post wrong! The engine is'nt for the M88.I want to hang one from the boom so it looks like a removal from a tank. Sorry for the confusion,i will check out the website though.

Sorry for the confusion,i will check out the website though. what I'd like to do is the M1 power pack conversion for the M60/M48 tank. They built a small hand full, and the basic power pack fits right in there. Yet all the sheet metal is different. Not sure about the engine grates as it's been thirty years since I last saw that combo, and then it was only for a few minutes. (we had the two tanks parked inside for a week) Wish somebody would be brave enough to do the two different XM1's (Chrysler and Allison). What happened to the Chrysler version, I don't remember. The Allison (you guys call it out as GM)is that Littlefield bought it. gary

Good question on the Chrysler version! I really never knew who manufactured the power packs.

Good question on the Chrysler version! I really never knew who manufactured the power packs. The Chrysler tank used the AVCO gas turbine (often called Lycoming)and the X1100 gear box with a the same final drives in both tanks. The Allison design used either a 12 cylinder or sixteen cylinder diesel (not a Lycoming). The gear box is similar to the X1100-5 that was introduced about six or seven years later. Even the tracks are the same. As the tanks were in the pre IP stage, several foreign countries tried them out. Israel wanted to buy the GM version, but was not interested in the Chrysler version. They would never exist had they gone the otherway. gary

That's some great information Gary! If my memory serves me correct did'nt both Chrysler and GM start building tanks for WWII?
