Flak 37

kind of a dumb question, but gotta seek out the answer. (or answers)
1. Did they ever mount the Flak 37 on the Mobile Wagon (furniture van)? How about half tracks?
2. I read that they installed a small handful of twin 37mm flaks on the Ostwind. Plus they did the same with the 30mm Jabo Schreck on the Add to dictionary. Did they ever install these on half tracks?
3. Lastly; I've read more than once that the frame mount for the quad twenty on the Mobile Wagon is incorrect in the Tamiya kit. Have never read what's wrong, and have zero idea what they are talking about.

Ok Gary, a couple of questions on my end. Are you asking about the 37mm Flak 37 or the 88mm Flak 37? If the 37mm version, I know of no reason it could not be mounted on the "Mobelwagen" chassis. The 37mm was mounted on the SdKfz 7/2, Tamiya has a kit of this with the armored cab. As for question 2, I have not seen any pictures of the twin 37 on the Ostwind. Question 3, you are one up on me. IF I recall correctly, the base frame was cut down to remove the foot plates, seats, and, ammo racks due to them being mounted on the turret shell for the Wirblewind. I know of no mods for the Mobelwagen. I would believe that the fill platform would be necessary for the loaders to service the weapons. Hope this helps, Joel.

The flak 37 I'm referring to has a longer barrel than the normal 37mm flak gun. Even the frame looks heavier. The twin 37mm flak gun (vertical) was a very late war thing. Supposedly about seven frames were converted over, but suspect it was about three. The 30mm quad would have been a swap out, bolt for bolt. The 30mm used the same basic frame work as the 20mm, but was beefed up in places. Once again a late war effort with just a small handful converted over. I guess the 30mm was a beast, and usually only took one hit to bring any plane down. With the panzer IV hull, there was a pedestal with three or four out riggers. The way I understand it, these are not correct. The basic frame of the gun then mounts atop the pedestal. I doubt I would mess with it, as it largely unseen anyway. gary

Flak 37

As far as I know 240 Möbelwagen armed with the Flak 37 were built. The Flak 37 was also fitted to SdKfz 7 and Schwerer Wehrmachtschlepper. Ostwind II was the one armed with the twin 37mm Flak 44, but never made it past the prototype stage. A total of 185 Flak twins were built - most used for airfield defence, so it's unlikely that any of them got fitted to half-tracks - not impossible but undocumented. Hope that helps

Hope that helps I read that possibly two or three Ostwind II's were being tested in the field at the end of the war. Of course these would be a pre prototype chassis. The 30mm jabo would have literally been a bolt in swap for the quad 20mm. I have a couple Trumpeter 7.2 half tracks, and maybe two Tamiya's as well. I might just put one of the Tamiya's together in a "semi" what if build. My Dragon kits will be left as is like the Trumpeters. Just have a thing for half tracks. gary
