Looking at those pics made me realize that the wax paints are gorgeous, but do not hold up to repeated handling. Touch ups to be done.

Thank you PJ2 for the compliment my good man. The engine was done in fits and starts. The ignition harness was done today. Both sides would have been done had I not screwed up the first run. Oh well! I good practice run I guess.

Thank you kindly PJ2. Time at the bench of late has been at a premium. I did get the wiring harness finished last week. Other than that, not much progress lately. Good evening Bill. Thank you for the compliment. I would love to hear one of these running in person. I don't know if there are any running. Vintage Aviator Ltd has some very nice power plants running.

It's been a long while since I posted. Between an Alaskan motorcycle trip (not to mention the logistics involved before and after the trip), my wifes work schedule and getting the twins off to separate colleges.....it's been a bit busy at this end. Progress at the bench is picking up speed. I got a couple of small things done up last week. Yesterday was a good bit more. The oil tank is mounted. It's mounting brackets were apparently wooden, so they got painted first. I masked off the fuselage and laid down some Ghost Grey. The gunners deck isn't finished yet, as there a some areas to be painted to represent wooden panels. Though the wheels are mounted, they are far from done. No point in weathering them just yet, as there is a lot of handling yet to do. Much of the progress yesterday was devoted to painting the struts. Simple pieces, but a few steps to get them to look right. - Primer coat - Base coat - Light dusting of IDF primer grey - Lighter base coat. - Tamiya clear orange thinned way down and shot at about 8-10psi. - Satin clear coat - MIG 502 oil paint to help with color and wood grain. Mind you this strut is atypical as it has the pitot tube on it. The rest of the struts a just struts. This is one still has some detail painting to go. Last but not least....the prop. This only has the base coat on. None of the wood effects have been applied as yet. I wanted one with the four bladed prop, and the one I chose will have red markings on the blades. Unfortunately, the prop boss will be covered with a small spinner.

Good evening all. T I'm not so sure about the saint thing. Damn near launched it today. Started on the rigging and the CA was sticking to everything but the line. Boots Done with working on the beast for now. Enjoying a beer at the moment. Andy Damn near lost my mind. The CA was behaving oddly tonight. Sticking to everything but where I wanted it to. Here's as far as I got this evening. The CA was weird tonight. Accelerator didn't matter/work. Obviously I got the CA to work in a couple of spots.

Good afternoon PJ2. Sorry for the delay. I had to step away from the winged beastie for a bit. I was eyeballing it on the bench today, and it's time to give the rigging another go. "Saint Thug".....I've been called many things, but never a saint. Thank you for the compliment my good man.

Today, I decided to have another go at the rigging for the beast! I decided to start with the cabine rigging, as one of those lines broke during my last go. When I glued the two lines with gap filling CA, they stayed put. Two for two. So, I opted to proceed with the rest of the rigging. Every line stayed put with one attempt. I used accelerator in a few spots, and even the spots where I did use it, the line stayed put. I'm not sure what was so different about today, but it worked. Temperature and humidity were not all that different from when I glued the lines to the bottom wing originally. As you can see the engine, radiator and gun tube have been mounted. What took a few weeks to get done on the port side was completed in about 30 minutes on the starboard side. The old point and shoot digi cam was having fits trying to find a focal point with this pic. Perhaps a SLR digi cam for birthday? The engine will not remain this pristine. The weathering process has yet to start there. The black line you see in the foreground is the drift line. It runs from the forward portion of the engine bearer to the bottom side of the upper wing. It keeps the wings from drifting aft....as in off the airframe.

Thank you very much PJ2. Today will be some touch up work, satin clear coat, and hopefully the mounting of control surfaces. The latter wil have to cure for at least 24 hours before I mount any control lines.
